Make a Menu like a DVD on a USB drive?

Hello is it possible to use premire or encore to make a custom Menu on a USB drive that is holding mp4 videos ect..

here is my issue,

i want to put more thant one movie on a DVD well that cannot happen if they are over 8.5gb so if i were to get a USB flash drive and load it up with movies is it possble to make a menu for that?

the reason i am asking is i have a overhead car dvd player and it has a USB port in it, how ever the audiance is 5 years and below so they cant really navigate to the video file directly and play it from there so if i can make a menu for them (like on a DVD player) then they can navigate.

Does your car player work with the BluRay format, or only a DVD?

from googling over and over it looks like unless you have a computer to play the files from there is no real way to make a USB drive act like a DVD with a stand alone dvd player.

unless anyone has heard otherwise???

Hi mmenz22779,

I would load a bunch of movies on an iPod and plug that into the DVD player. Would that work?

Thanks,

Kevin

I haven't tried it on an ipod, but on a USB drive it is, afaik, impossible to take control over the content the way you can on a DVD/BD.

The things that happen among others are when you playback files from USB drives:

1. You see the tv's/DVD player playback controls for a couple of seconds. (it overlays the video=bad)

2. It play the files only alphabetically. (Planning the names carefully is critical=small/no issue)

3. When it has played the last file, it starts over with the first one. You are just looping the files. (big issue)

4. Sometimes the TV/DVD mis-interprets the files and play them back at the wrong frame rate. (such as playing back 25 fps files as 24 fps with one glitch/second...)

Having a menu system is critical i many cases. Since Encore has left the building i hope that someone develop a similar authoring tool so one can put finished movies on a USB drive with total control over the movies, such as when the move comes to the end, go back to the main menu, having main menus/submenus/popup menus, etc, etc.

Having no way to author movies on next generation OS's is an issue that needs to be adressed.

/Roger

I do NOT use these, so have NO idea if they will do what you need

I found this thread looking for an answer to my similar question. I want to send the grandkids usb drives with family videos, but as soon as they plug the usb drive into their computer or TV they are presented with a menu so they can choose the video they want to watch. I guess I could use Encore to make a flash site with the videos inside it, but I don't want them to have to click on anything. I just want the menu to come up the way a DVD does. Doesn't seem like this would be too difficult, but I'm not the brightest.
