Masks in Premiere

New Here ,
Jun 13, 2022 Jun 13, 2022

I am trying to create multiple masks in one video clip - adjusting some shadows n 3 different places. I can create the first mask, make the exposure adjustments and it looks great. Then when I try to add another mask, and make adjustments for that mask, it seems connected to the first mask. The second mask takes on the same settings of the first mask. I need them to be different, how can I do that. I'm a bit of a beginner in premiere. Thanks!

If you want to apply the Lumetri color effect to a certain area of your clip, then you should add the mask to the Lumetri effect, not to the opacity.  After that, if you want to apply different settings of Lumetri color to another area, you have to add another Lumetri color effect with another mask to your clip.

When I create my second mask, it takes on the settings of the first mask.

Are you adjusting the exposure of the underneath track to adjust your shadows? If so, what you are seeing is normal because a mask is just a cutout of the top layer (track) that lets you see through it to the layer (track) below. If you change the exposure of the bottom layer, any mask that you cut out of the top layer will see whatever exposure change you made to the bottom layer.

If that's not what's happening, or if you're trying to do something different than what I described, please provide more detail. Preferably by screenshots of your timeline and the effects control panel for each of the tracks.
