Media Browser doesn't auto select media type when using 'Link Media'

I'm relinking hi-res Media from a recent shoot to the low-res proxies that were originally supplied... what I'm finding is that Premiere's Media Browser panel is not auto selecting the media format, which in my instance is Canon XF...  instead it defaults to File Directory and I have to manually select the format. Using Media Browser for Import with the exact same media the file format is auto-selected correctly/as expected.

Is there any setting which controls this (auto-selection) for Link Media? Or is this a feature that's not been implemented?

Thanks

Andy

Cheers Jim, the issue is with apparently inconsistent behaviour in Premiere's Media Browser, not my workflow...  Premiere's built in proxy workflow is great but isn't relevant in this scenario.

Was hoping it might have been due to an option I'd overlooked,  but I guess not. Will file a bug report.

Cheers

My recommendation would be to use the native Proxy process below.  Stick to the included Cineform presets.

My point was that using a different workflow, you would likely not encounter the issue (and likely even avoid others).

I didn't have the master files to make proxies from. The masters were in Kashmir,  whereas I am in Kuala Lumpur... bit tricky ingesting from there myself because the hard drive cable wasn't quite long enough.
