HI,
Using the latest version of Premier and trying to relink files. We get the following:
"The selected file does not contain video media used by clip references in one or more sequences. These video clip references will be deleted, and cannot be undone. Do you want to continue?
they are Quicktime movies but they have to convert to open in the latest version quicktime. what is the workaround without starting from scratch!
Thanks,
Rachel
I think your friend may be in a bit of a pickle. Adobe dropped support for these legacy codecs starting with v12.1 of Premiere and Media Encoder, and then (due to a separate issue) they stopped allowing downloads of versions prior to that one. So chances are your media won't import into Compressor either, nor can she download a trial of CC17 or earlier in order to open the old project.
You could ask around and see if anyone you know still has an older version of Premiere installed on their machin

Hi Rachel,
Can you post the specs of the footage you're trying to import? What is the codec?
Adobe had to drop support for some older Quicktime formats; it may be that you're trying to import one of those.

Yes I think that's the case. It's actually for a friend and she has the project so I can't send a file but I do think it's the old QT format since some of the files in the project do link correctly.
Should she try to go back to an earlier version of Premier? She's an Avid Editor trying to transfer the project to Avid using a trial Premier license so this just makes it even more gnarly for her.
If anyone knows of a work around using a current version of Premier, I'd love to hear it!
Thanks,
Rachel

You could ask around and see if anyone you know still has an older version of Premiere installed on their machine and ask them to open the project to export an XML.
You could also try transcoding the footage in Handbrake -- set the quality to MAX so that even if it's H.264 it's not very compressed (and I suppose you could off-line those and relink to the originals in AVID later). Then you can link all the media and export an XML from that project to open in Resolve -- which you're going to have to use anyway because that's the best way to get Premiere projects into AVID.

You could try using handbrake to convert the clips into a format supported,
Apple support for older formats has been changing and as a result some formats are no longer supported in Premiere Pro.

We can use Media Encoder too I guess. Then name them the same names and try to relink that way. I was trying to find a work around that avoided transcoding everything (the project's media organization is folders within folders within folder!?!?!). But that may be the way to go.

Yes, I saw that. What we need is the work around. We have inherited a project which is a far way into a cut linking to files that no longer want to play with the current version of Premier. Is there a work around? Or links to one?
Thanks!
