Mono to Stereo on Hundreds of Clips...

Community Beginner ,
Sep 19, 2019 Sep 19, 2019

I have a project which has hundreds of clips on the timeline. Years ago when I started I made all the audio clips mono (because I was told that was the best to handle audio) but now I need to deliver all the clips in stereo.

I have added tons of filters on these clips to enchance the voice, remove background noise, etc.

My question is.. Is there any easy way to somehow select all the clips and turn them into stereo instead of mono while keeping the effects I applied?

Thanks for looking.

I always go with an effect, fill left with righ or fill with right with left, so my mono tracks sound like stereo.

That won't work for me because I have all 1 channel mono. 😞

You wouldn't really be "turning mono clips stereo". Stereo clips have something different on the left and right channel, so if your clips are mono all you can do is export the audio as stereo. You would still get a mono result because you'd be outputting the same audio to both the left and right channel, but technically you'd have a stereo clip because you'd have both a left and right audio track. When you go to export your video, choose the audio tab and make sure stereo output is selected. Alternatively, you may want to change your sequence settings to stereo audio if it's currently set to mono.

The person who I need to deliver the sequence to said: Left and right should be different if it's stereo. You have to go back to your original mix.

What's in your project? Is it music or dialog, or both?

It is 95% dialog/narration. and the other is 5% music. The only thing I can think of is opening the clips in audition and choosing Favorite - Convert to stereo and then reexporting.

Not necessary. The dialog clips are going to be mono, unless you recorded them with a stereo mic, but that's unlikely. The only thing that would have been stereo to begin with and you may have turned mono is the music. Or, if the person you're delivering it to wants some of the audio on the right channel and some on the left. Sometimes media outlets, like TV stations, request that all music be on one channel and dialog on the other so that they can mix it themselves and replace the music if they need to.

I have to go to meeting, but you can call me in about 90 minutes if you want and I can more easily help you. My website is 3to1video.com. Just call the number on there, but I won't be available for about 90 minutes.

Hmm. I am not sure what to do at this point. I have been stuck on this for a few days trying to figure out how to make this correct for what they require. Right now the dialog is just one channel audio. I figure if I do what I mentioned above in audition it will at least have 2 tracks rather than one.
