Motion Graphics Templates do not fully download from Libraries

I have designed a variety of Motion Graphics Templates in Premiere Pro and saved them all to my Creative Cloud Libaries. Recently, I've been running into an issue where these graphics will not download properly from my libraries when I drag them onto a sequence. Everything was working fine for a while, but the issue just popped up overnight, and I haven't been able to solve it.

The graphics appear in both the Essential Graphics Panel and in my libraries in the Creative Cloud app, but won't actually download properly. A download window will briefly appear for a fraction of a second, but any graphic I downlaod that is saved in my libraries will be empty once it's been dragged to my timeline.

It looks like at least one other person has reported a similar issue, but it doesn't look like much progress was made in solving it as of yet, and their issue involves aftereffects files:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/Premiere-Pro/aegraphic-created-from-Motion-Graphics-Template-is-0-KB/...

More details/demonstration of issue:

Here, I created a new project, imported a b-roll clip, and created a sequence from that clip's properties. All of my graphics appear in the Essential Graphics window under libraries with thumbnails, indicating they contain content.

But when I drag them onto a sequence, no layers/elements appear in the "edit" tab of the essential graphics window. The graphic is completely empty, and doesn't even share the name of the file as listed in my libraries.

Screenshot 2.pngexpand image

When I right click on the file in my libary, multiple options are greyed out. Additionally, the info tab shows the file size as 0 KB -- as if all of its contents were deleted, despite the fact that I never did anything like that. Copying to my local disk has no effect, those files also appear as empty.

know the contents of the graphics templates are still there, because every now and then I will create a new project and one or two of them will load (albeint never consistently the same ones/all of them). But then I'll try creating another new project, and none of them will load again.

It could also be worth noting that I'm not receiving any error messages whatsoever.

I've already tried:

  • Restarting my PC
  • Signing in and out of my Adobe account
  • Complete uninstall and reinstall of Creative Cloud, premiere, and all Adobe apps on my PC.
  • Within both the Creative Cloud app and Premiere: duplicating Motion Graphics Templates, copying them to brand new libaries, and then attempting to dowload the graphics within premiere from thsoe new libraries.
  • Creating brand new graphics, uploading them to my Libraries, and then attempting to download them onto a new timeline in a new project.
  • Connecting to multiple wireless networks
  • Creating new projects on different drives on my PC to see if the issue would replicate (it does). (I normally edit projects from a OneDrive-synced folder and thought moving my project filesto a non-syncing Windows folder or external hard drive could have potentially solved the issue.)
  • Adjusting scratch disks for Motion graphics, to test whether that folder's placement affects the probability of the issue occuring (it does not)
  • Adjusting the Placement of my Creative Cloud Backups folder on my PC
  • Resetting preferences.
  • Setting different render settings (CUDA, OpenGl, etc.)
  • Calling Adobe Customer Support (3 times)

I'm running the latest version of Premiere Pro (13.1.5) but also encountered the issue on previous versions. My device is a Surface Book 2 with a Core i7 and a 6 GB NVidia GTX 1060.

I have no idea what else to do. I need to be able to design and access templates within Premiere as part of my work, so any help resolving this issue would be hugely appreciated.

Can you:
1. Drag and drop one of those problematic mogrts from the Library panels and see all your layers that way?
2. Go to https://assets.adobe.com/libraries , find your Library, check on mogrt(s), download and then install those downloaded mogrts and see all your layers that way?
3. Invite me to a Libnrary with problematic mogrts so I can try to experience the problem myself?

Jstrawn, dragging the .mogrts from my Libaries panel unfortunately did not solve the issue. I'm still unable to view the layers.

I tried your second suggestion as well, but was only able to download .jpg or .png files from the website. I was not able to add them to my Motion Graphics library through the essential graphics panel, presumably because it will only accept .mogrt or .aep files?

I'll send you a few links to some libaries. Thanks so much for all your help so far.

Another update: I was able to have one of my coworkers install the libraries and test them on his PC. They all worked fine there, leading me to believe that this is a hardware issue and not an account issue. From here, though, I have no idea what to try next.

I was able to join the library that you send me a link to, and then I could drag your mogrts to my sequence and get all the layers, fully editable as expected. I'm not sure why the same is not happening for you. Let me dig into it some more and see if I can get any further insight.

Thanks, jstrawn.

Do you think a full Windows 10 PC reset would solve the issue? It would be a massive pain, but I'm wondering if it's my best option. If uninstalling all Creative Cloud programs didn't fix the issue, I'm wondering if something changed within the OS that led to the incompatibility.

No don't do a full PC reset. There's no real indication that it's caused by your hardware or OS software.

Instead, here are some more things to try:
(1) Have your co-worker or other associate log out of CC Desktop App and back in using your account login info. Do they experience the same problem when logged in as you?
(2) Uninstall again and use the Adobe CC Cleaner tool to possibly solve the issue before re-installing.
(3) If all else fails, I can help you manually clean some things that might get Libraries working for you again. Let me know if it comes to this and I will send you more info 1:1.

Jstrawn, my coowrker wasn't available to assist me with your first suggestion as of yet, but I did try your second suggestion. Unfortunately, uninstalling all Adobe software, running the Cleaner, resetting my PC, and reinstalling did not solve the issue.

Another possible workaround (which we just learned):
Win 10 now allows you to change the NFTS Path limit: https://mspoweruser.com/ntfs-260-character-windows-10/

Here was my experience trying to test this:

This morning, I had created a new project which was suffering from the same issue as all my other ones. To start testing, I first checked the file path that project's Motion Graphics Template Media folder. Its complete file path was only about 170 characters, yet I was still having issues with empty graphic track items for that project.

Nect, I changed the scratch disk loaction for the Motion Graphics folder to a different location -- one with a path at about 95 characters in length. I adjusted these settings while the project was open in premiere. When I attempted to drag a new graphic over, even without closing Premiere, it worked! Editable layers and everything.

I was not sure if that change really fixed the issue for all projects, so to test it further,  I created a new Premiere Project with a path similar in character length to the project I was originally having issues with -- about 170 characters. I reset the scratch disks to their default location (within the newly created project's folder), expecting the motion graphics templates to not load properly as they usually would. To my surprise, they loaded perfectly fine. To clarify, that's despite the fact that I had changed the scratch disks back to their default, somewhat-long-pathed location.

So, It seems like adjusting the scratch disks (even though I adjusted them back to their original location after) reset something, somewhere, and may have fixed the issue. It could have been a fluke coincidence, though, so I'll try creating and testing some more projects to be sure.

I tried to manually create a filepath longer than 260 characters to test your theory, but Windows would not even let me create one that long, so I am not sure to what extent that issue is connected with mine.

Correction: It looks like for that test project, I did not actually readjust the scratch disks back to their default location.

I just created a new test project, with scratch disks set to their original, longish location. The .mogrts did not work. When I adjusted the scratch disks to a slightly more shallow location, the .mogrts did in fact download properly. So it looks like the workaround solution is, indeed, to move your scratch disks to a more shallow location.

Thank you so much for your help! Hopefully this bug can get fixed.
