Motion Question: Can I directly control velocity parameter?

I have text and graphics moving in and out of my video.    I would like to standardize the speed at which things move.  In the Motion/position effect,  PPro lets me move the location of a position keyframe, which then implies a velocity.  But I would like to reverse this logic and enter the velocity directy, and then let this imply the position of the keyframe.   There doesn't seem to be any way to do this, but I thought I would just check with others.  Thanks.  Have a great day.

Velocity is not a user adjustable parameter.

Hi Jim, would you agree it would be useful if velocity could be adjusted, directly?

I've never found the need for it.

I can actually see this could be useful, you want a number of things coming in at the same speed for example. But the way it's set now you can adjust the velocity after you've set keyframes. So you use the keyframes to set the start/stop places, then edit velocity as needed.

You're welcome to file the feature request of course. I doubt it would be high on a large percentage of users, but for those that liked it, it could be very high. Like many things in editing, natch.

Yes, for the style of my video, I believe it is very important that the there is one standard speed that things move in and out of view.   However, I'm not sure I totally follow the meaning of this sentence:  "So you use the keyframes to set the start/stop places, then edit velocity as needed."     I would say that you are  "editing" the start/stop places, and these imply the velocity.  You aren't directly "editing" the velocity.  I think we understand each other, just semantics really.  Thanks for you input.

No ... after you've set the key-frame between two places with adjusted whatever, you can adjust velocity, even changing the Velocity keyframes to handle-controlled bezier, you just can't set that first ... only after setting the main motion key-frames. As below ...

It's very useful to adjust velocity against motion to get the smoothest start and finish especially to graphics via the EGP.

And notice the parameter for per-second ... yes, you can set that, and yes, you can set this then make a preset. Create one that is the speed you want, then save that as a preset ... and that should take care of your needs.

Jim, that's not actually correct ... you can't set Velocity first ... but you can set it, and change it, after you've created a main motion key-frame pair. As in my other post.

And once you've made your motions key-frame with the Velocity set as you want, you can of course save that as a preset. Which will solve the OP's problem.
