Multiple peak files

Premiere is not recognising the exisiting peak files (stored next to the media) and generates new peak files whenever media is imported into a project.

I have the option checked - "Save Media Cache files next to originals when possible".

Has something changed with the way Premiere generates peak files making it necessary to regenerate them?

Or would this be triggered by something I have done?

Peak files only exist for imported files, so it's SOP for PP to generate them for newly imported media.  It's always been thus, and can't really be any other way.

OK but I mean when the peak file already exists.

For example I have a file movie001.mxf and an existing peak file movie001.pek. But when I import the file into a new project Premiere creates another peak file movie001_01.pek, instead of detecting the existing peak file.

It may have something to do with the version of the Premiere project file - peak files generated by older versions of PP will be ignored and new peak files generated.

These new peak files will be detected if the media is subsequently imported into another project.

But why couldn't the older peak files be used?

I think that's normal as well.  I have a library of audio files than I use over and over, and PP creates a cache every time I import to another project.

I'm having the same issue of PP (2017.1.2) generating multiple peak files . But I'm opening the same project.  Sometimes it uses the old one and sometimes it creates a new one, I don't know how it decides when to create a new peak file but some of my video files have 4 peak files associated with them.
