My promiere pro is very slow

Community Beginner ,
Jul 12, 2024 Jul 12, 2024

My pc : i9 10900K CPU, 64Go RAM, RTX 3080

For several months, Premiere Pro has been slow. When I click on any interaction, I have to wait a second for the click to be registered, which is really frustrating. Additionally, since I did the last Premiere Pro update, when I press "play" to play the timeline, the cursor indicating the timeline line freezes and the audio meter is not smooth. For all my projects its the same.

I work with proxies in h264.

GPU acceleration.

Gave 50 go of ram for adobe.

Cache is often empty.

I have never seen these problems among my colleagues. I don't know what to do anymore.

Hi Adrien,

Could I get a bit more information to help diagnose the issue?

1. How long is your sequence?
2. What is the frame size of your sequence and your media?
3. What is the resolution of your proxies?

Also, h.264 is really not an ideal proxy format—it will chew up a lot of memory on your machine. I would recommend a codec like ProRes, especially if you're experiencing performance issues.

Cheers,
Paul

My sequence is 2min53, 59,94 frames per second like my video. My proxy resolution is 680 x 382.

Im making a test with prores proxy, but doesn't help for my problem.

With such a short sequence and small proxies, it seems unusual that you'd be experiencing lag issues, which means the bottleneck is happening somewhere else.

It would still be good to know your sequence and media frame size. 680 x 382 is an unusual frame size.

How was your original media filmed? Where is it being stored?

Cheers,
Paul

It was filmed with a DJI drone. The resolution is 2720 x 1530.

It's stored on an external Samsung SSD.

Could the problem be my internal SSD (where Premiere Pro is installed) not being performant enough ?
(Samsung SSD 860 QVO 1TB)

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.
