Hello,
I'm new to Premiere and have been working and reworking a first short. I am wondering if I can import a previous .avi version (that I exported) of my film and open it to re-edit. At this point my rookie mistakes have made a hash of many of my project files and this would be a way to regain some of the footage without starting over. Can this be done?
Thank you.
You can edit the avi, but you can't modify the previous edits unless you have the project file.

You may import almost any file... depending on what is INSIDE the file
AVI is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... A screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing - For Windows Internet Explorer press the PRINT SCREEN button on your keyboard, and then do CTRL-V to paste the screen print from the clipboard into a forum message

- when you analyze your file in MediaInfo and post a screen shot in the forum, do so in TREE view

Thanks John. I figured a workaround with one of my files. Thought if I made the file in premiere the converting back might be an easy question.
