No audio playback from Premiere 2017.1.2

So this has been going on for a few weeks now. I'm working a project and everything is just fine. Then for no apparent reason there is no sound coming out of Premiere anymore. The files are okay and the audio meters show me that sound is being played.

All other applications play sound just fine, and I've selected the right output device in Premiere's Audio Hardware preferences. Changing them to a different audio device doesn't work.

So far, restarting Premiere several times in a row has been the only thing that worked, but it's not very convenient.

I'm running Premiere 2017.1.2 on MacOS Sierra 10.12.6. and a maxed out 2016 MacBook Pro 15.

Did someone else encounter or maybe even solve this problem? I would love to hear your solution. Thank you!

Hi Iskandar,

All other applications play sound just fine, and I've selected the right output device in Premiere's Audio Hardware preferences.

What is your Audio output device? Are you able to hear audio (in Premiere Pro) from the internal speakers?

Please attach a screenshot of the Audio Hardware Preferences window.

Thanks,

Kulpreet Singh

Right now I've selected "Background Music Device" which is just an application I use to toggle off/on Spotify when I'm playing audio in Premiere. Background Music Device sends the audio to whatever output I select.

But it makes no difference whether I select Background Music Device, Built-in Output, an external audio interface or my bluetooth headphones. They all work fine at firs and then they don't. At least not with Premiere.

I've never seen this issue before. Audio cuts out even when using Built-in Output? Are any other programs outputting audio at the same time?

Yes, audio cuts out using the Built-in Output as well. Other programs aren't necessarily outputting any audio, but if I try to they work jsut fine.

For example. I've been working on a project for the past seven hours or so, and a few minutes ago it just stopped playing audio again. No matter what project file I open and no matter what audio device I select from the hardware preferences, there's no sound playing from Premiere and of course, when I export the video it's fine.

I've also re-installed Premiere yesterday, but no luck.

When it cuts out and you go back into Audio Hardware preferences, has anything changed? If not, change your default output to something else, click OK. Then renter Preferences and change the default output back to Built-In Output, click OK. Does audio return then?

Nope, nothing changes. I still have to restart Premiere a few times before it works again.

Yes, that does work. But only as good as the others. Meaning it stops working at random moments.

It's getting more and more frustrating. All indicators in Premiere show that there's sound playing, but there is none. I've restarted Premiere over five times already, opened different projects and restarted my system, changed the default output multiple times, but still there is no sound.

The default output is now set to built-in output, my Mac's audio is set to the internal speakers and all other applications including Audition ( ! ) are playing audio just fine. I can't get work done this way!

Can you go to Premiere Audio Hardware preferences, click Settings, and take a screenshot of the Audio Devices screen that comes up?

Iskandar, that is just the Audio Hardware pane. There is a settings button on on that page that takes you to "Audio Devices." Can you screenshot  hat?

Here's what it looks like:

This worked for me:

- click 'Solo' button on only one track

- play (this plays the sound for me)

- declick 'Solo' button

- play (this played all sounds)

- repeat every time you open the project that has the issue

Some projects open with no playback problem, so I don't have to do my little 'adobe-glitch-redeeming' thingy.

No explanation, no logic, just one random solution after long frustrated lost time. Hope this helps.
