No preview on paused playhead

Hi,

I've been working on a project for three months without any problems at all. When I opened it today I'm suddenly getting very odd issues.

The sequence plays back ok but once I puase I can only see a black frame in the program window.

Also, if I open any clip in the source window it previews a frame of white noise but, again, if i actually hit play it plays back fine. Then when I pause it reverts to a frame of white noise.

There's been no software upgrade, no change to the sequence settings, I'm on the same machine as I've been throughout the edit, I've not even imported anything new to the project today. Just opened it and it seems to be freaking out.

Any ideas on how to resolve would be very welcome!

Thanks,

Sami

This looks like a known bug specific to Premiere 2024 and Macs with Intel core processors.

You can quickly get rid of it by going to File > Project Settings and setting Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine Software Only.

Another option is to restart your machine.

For what it's worth, this is what I'm seeing when not playing either source or sequence.
