Hi everybody,
I'm using a Mac Mini, running Sierra 10.12.6 and Premier Pro 13.1.5,
I recently starting using Premier Pro and had no problems with the playhead, but today it started jumping and sticking. After reading these forums, I restarted the program holding down the shift and alt keys to reset the preferences, and disconnected Bluetooth. Unfortunately, neither solved the problem. I remembered that last night I downloaded and installed After Effects 16.1.3, so I uninstalled it, and that solved the problem. There must be a glitch somewhere.
Hope this helps.
Mark

Your computer may not be powerful enough for Premiere Pro:

Try using proxies:

Hi Bob,
Thanks.
I'll give it a try, but I don't think this will resolve the issue. File size is not an issue, as the playhead is skipping/jumping/stalling while working with animated text - I haven't even imported or added a video clip to the timeline. I simply create a new sequence, type text in the Program Panel, then in the Effects Control Panel adjust its position using the Position values. Then I just hit the playback button, and it skips like crazy.
If you do a search on the Premier forums for "playhead skipping" you'll see that there are several other threads citing this sample problem, and all seem to point to this particular version of Premier. So, I'm not the only one experiencing this problem.
Thanks.
Mark

Can you post a screenshot of the timeline?

Hi Bob,
Here's a screen shot of the clip. As I mentioned, there's no video just a text animation. I don't think it could be any simpler than this. I'm trying to replicate what's in this tutorial. Just look at the text along the bottom left when the tutorial begins.

The red line above the timeline means that your computer is not powerful enough to play the timeline smoothly without rendering or that your media doesn't match the sequence settings.
Press Enter to render the timeline and the red should turn to green.
You can also try using proxies:

Hi Bob,
OK, that does it. I guess hitting the Enter key is the same as selecting Render Selection under the Sequence Tab?
Is this something I should only do once at the end once I complete my timeline, or can I do it at any time throughout the process? To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what Render Selection means so I'm unsure as to what effect it's having on my project at any given time.
Thanks.

"I guess hitting the Enter key is the same as selecting Render Selection under the Sequence Tab?"
Yes, except that you can choose to render audio also from the menu.
"Is this something I should only do once at the end once I complete my timeline, or can I do it at any time throughout the process?"
You can do it any time you need or want to do it.
