poor MacPro Trashcan performance transcoding H.265 or h.264 for 4K

I have the MacPro trashcan 6 CPU with 2 graphics cards and lots of memory - and it will take 2 days!!!!! to transcode a 30 sec 4K clip!!!!

Really? The CPU shows like 90% usage continuously so it is doing something - but 844 frames would take days?

Is it even using the killer GPU I have?

And ffmpeg or other tools will transcode much quicker. Is there some setting I need to change? It can't possibly be that slow!!!!!

In your Media Encoder window, make sure you have your Renderer set to Mercury Playback Engine CPU Acceleration (Open CL)  and not "Software Only." It's at the bottom right in the window.

Hi mkrjf,

As suggested by Chakramtosser, Change the renderer & try export again.

Are you using Premiere Pro or Media Encoder for export?

If Premiere Pro, File > Project Settings > General > Renderer.

Change the Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration & try Export.

If using Media Encoder, In Queue Panel right bottom corner, Change the Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration & try Export.

Please let us know the status of the issue.

Thanks,

Vidya
