PP 23.5 update changes my fonts in essential graphics

Just updated from 23.4 to 23.5 on M1 and a M2 macbook pro. First thing I noticed is that my fonts look different in my essential graphic mogrts. I don't have access to the original after effects files, the mogrts were created in after effects and they were done by someone else. I have used these through many versions of Premiere, and today with the new version, they look different. Not having access to the original AE file, I am not sure if the whole font is changing or just a property of the font. It might be just that it is not bold.

My best guess is that your colleagues do not have the exact same font file as you do.

For example, you have a version of Poppins which came from Gooogle, and they have a version of Poppins which came from Adobe Fonts, then it might look like you have the same font, but they are not the same to After Effects. Same issue if one is a Static font and the other is a Variable font.

This automatic replacement is convenient, but it can mask real design issues.

When you get this fix you are still in the situation where the font which was used to create the mogrt is not the same as the one which is using the morgrt.

Imagine if you will what would happen if you used a character which had glyph defined in your font, but not in their font. Or if the glyph metrics were different and the composition changed so the line breaks are different, or went overset.

We are all getting these fonts from our corporate Monotype accounts. Moreover, these errors occur on the same machine I use to build and export the MOGRTs. AE sees the font fine, and some MOGRTS see the same font fine, but others show that font as missing, even different MOGRTs exported from the very same comps. I can even re-export a problem MOGRT and "fix" the missing font error temporarily, but some of the MOGRTs will somehow go bad again for reasons I can't fathom.

Sounds to me from your description that your font environment is not stable.

If you are having issues entirely on your own system then that certainly is a good place to start troubleshooting.

You say that it sometimes work on your own machine, and other times fail. I presume you are referring to opening the Mogrt in PPro? Does it ever fail within After Effects?

Are your issues specific to one particular font, or is it all the fonts you use in the mogrts? There are scripts we can run on your system to identify exactly what font you are using and where it comes from.

Was Poppins part of this problem font set?

For example, Poppins has known duplicates:

Monotype does not seem to offer Poppins.

Has Adobe Fonts activated any of the fonts which you assume should be coming from Monotype?

I'd characterize it as a pretty stable font environment since we are exclusively using Monotype fonts for these projects (the fonts in question aren't on Adobe Fonts). TT Ramillas and NueuePlak are the two typefaces that have exhibited this problem, but they are also basically the only typefaces in the graphics package, so I don't know if other fonts might exhibit the same behavior. The only time these fonts have come up as missing is when certain MOGRTs are placed on the timeline in Premiere. Once a MOGRT starts flagging the font as missing it seems to always flag it as missing, whether adding that MOGRT to a new timeline or opening a project with an existing copy of that MOGRT already used in it. Other MOGRTs from the same package, using exactly the same fonts, will continue to render correctly on the same timeline. Neither of the fonts are flagged as missing in AE or when using the type tool in Premiere. I have also opened up one of the problem MOGRTs, extracted the project, exported a new MOGRT file from that project, changing nothing except the name of the MOGRT to avoid confusion, imported the new MOGRT into Premiere, and found that it works fine, at least at first. Same system, no changes to synced fonts.

But re-exporting the MOGRTs doesn't always permanently fix them, as some of the MOGRTs that I have re-exported and which behaved themselves at first later spontaneously started flagging the fonts as missing again.

Don't you think this fits the description of the font validation bug that you described earlier in this thread?

Hello! I also cannot edit the Font field of the MOGRT in Premiere, it only comes with a default font that is un-editable

I'm having a somewhat similar problem.

PPRO 24.5.0

AEFT 24.5.0

Funnily enough the default font used (Bebas Neue Pro Expanded Regular/BebasNeuePro-ExpRg, set using the Text panel and expressions) is not properly synced, however other fonts (BebasNeuePro-SmERg and BebasNeuePro-Regular, set only through expressions) were synced properly.

What's even more frustrating is that it happens to _some_ users but not all, and when it happens, it's not all the time, and everyone's on PPRO 24.5.0. Sometimes deleting the font and re-installing it through the CC app fixes the problem, sometimes it does not.

If font syncing is _this_ unreliable then you should have a feature similar to Illustrator where the user chooses the replacement font manually.
