Premiere 2017 or 2018 doesn't automatically change output when headphones are plugged in. I have to manually switch between speakers and headphone in the preferences. Even worse, if I unplug headphones while that output is selected, Premiere throws up a missing hardware notification error.
This behavior is not uncommon. I don’t envy Adobe’s challenge to be compatible with so much hardware. Perhaps a feature request for a more convenient way to switch between audio outputs.
