Premiere Pro 2025 High CPU Usage at launch screen

Recently updated to 2025 and when sitting at the launch screen, premiere is using a lot of CPU, specifically like, 4-6 threads near 100%. It should be doing nothing here. Once I launch a project, this abnormal usage goes away. The system is stable otherwise.

Screenshot attached. You can see in HWInfo that Cores 3, 4, 5, and 13 all have high usage. The only other application running is HWInfo and Chrome, and you can see in task manager that they're using very little resources. The other two Apps not shown are Task Manager and Explorer.

System Specs:
Windows 10 Pro 22H2

AMD Ryzen 9 3950X
NVIDIA RTX 3090 FE

64GB DDR4 3600MHz

I’m experiencing the exact same issue after updating to Premiere Pro 2025. At the launch screen, 4–6 CPU threads spike to near 100%, even though no project is open. Like you, my system is otherwise stable, and the issue disappears once a project is loaded.

Was this issue ever resolved for you? Did Adobe provide any updates or fixes?

not yet for me... they could give me some of the bitcoins they are mining as exchange 😉

Hi, we see the exact same issue. We are supporting a larger group of Premiere users and we are monitoring the CPUs. When the editos leave their desks in the launch screen Premiere is starting to utilize single cores with 100%... quite annoying. If they stay in this state they hang up after a while. (maybe only because these are VMs)
As soon as we log in via any remote access, the CPU drops immediately.

Please keep posting on any results! Thanks

Hi @petrichorpictures -  Do you have your media cache saved locally or on your QNAP?  Can you manually delete your media cache?  I have a couple more requests but we can start there.  Thank you for your help in solving this issue.

Hi @petrichorpictures - Can take a couple process samples while Premiere is in this state and email them to jamiec@adobe.com. Thank you for your help

Bone stock Premiere install, no plugins or additional panels. As I said, this only started with v25; never had this problem before.

I will say, I've noticed this behavior does not happen if my network drive is offline and the recent projects list is empty. If my NAS is on and connected as a Mapped Network Drive, the behavior persists. Additionally, Premiere will crash on close if the network drive is offline (that is, it will need to be closed via Task Manager and is shown as "Not Responding"). My suspicion is this is network related.

For more info on the network side of things, I'm using a Intel X550-T2 with both ports in aggregate (specifically, 802.3ad Dynamic Link Aggregation). Its drivers are up to date using the latest from Intel, as well as their PROSet Adapter Configuration Utility. The NAS is connected via SMB network share and utlizes SMB multi-pathing, though that is all server-side stuff and should be irrelevant to the client.

Hi @petrichorpictures - I'm currently not able to repro this.   Do you have any plugins or extra panels installed with Premiere?  Did this happen with version 24?  What steps have you taken to troubleshoot?
