Hi,
I updated to Premiere Pro CC 2018 yesterday, and have since have had multiple problems with the software. Most common, most times I try to "Drag Edge of Clip" (trim) to expand it in the timeline, I automatically get shut down.
My workaround has been to use the Razor tool to cut where I need to, but if I forget, I get shut down again.
Other than my workaround (or any other workarounds) is there a way to fix this so I won't crash as often.
Thanks!

Hey I'm back.
The problem was back, so I tried new stuff and it worked for me:
At first, I cleaned the cache database on Edit > Preferences > Media Cache.
Then I went to Windows: \Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common and wiped that too.
So, I created a new project and put my scratch disks into a different directory.
It worked for me.

If anyone frustrated and not found the fix this step must work for Windows os!
(note this step will effect your windows appearance so backup any important files on Windows partition)
Here the ULTIMATE SOLUTION :
Step 1. Open command with administration privilege (right click on cmd and choose run as administrator).
step 2. Type in "net user administrator /active:yes" (these command will activate the hidden built in administrator user) to deactivate this administrator user simply change "yes" command to "no"!
Step 3. Finally sign out and sign in with new administrator account (right click on start button and choose sign out and choose account named "Administrator" to sign in!
THAT'S ALL NOW RUN YOUR PREMIERE PRO WITHOUT CRASH

Hmmmmm.... anybody an idea how to go about this on a mac high sierra?

That was going to be my question, is there a solution for Mac High Sierra OS? It seems to happen to me when using .psd files on the timeline or try to render the timeline and when exporting directly.... Basically, it happens a lot!

I saw a post in another forum about a user making changes to a Mac as far as pushing the user account to be a full Admin account, and supposedly many issues they'd been having with lagging problems and even the opening projects screen not appearing ended. He didn't provide any details, and as I'm not a Mac person, I've no clue what that entails on a Mac.
But ... I would check your user account status.

Thanks Neil, I am the administrator for my user account on my Mac and the problem continues... I just wish Adobe would get their act together and find a workaround for the High Sierra OS for Mac. If Adobe can't keep up any longer then I guess I will have to switch to Final Cut or Avid which is a shame since I have been a Premiere guy for almost 10yrs now. The Adobe premiere crash reports are a joke and I am losing faith that they will find a fix. I will start pricing other editing software and have our business switch unless they can fix this by Monday.

What I have found that works for me on the Mac is downgrading back to Mac Sierra and not using High Sierra. Since I have reverted back I have not had any problems.

The first solution I found to work: Downgrading to 2017
BUT after a while I started to have issues syncing with After Effects or any other 2018 program.
So I had to upgrade back to 2018. But then Cloud had a hard time reinstalling, and got stuck over and over again.
So I ended up wiping my entire machine of Adobe. Used CC Cleaner.
You could stop there if you're salty, but I then reinstalled from the website.
The error has not reoccured since.

TEMPORARY SOLUTION
I didn't found the source of the bug. But, at least, I figure out how to do it not to occur. Just keep only one selected track, video and sound, in timelime when you drag something. If more than one is selected, the error will occur. If there is only one track selected (one for video and one for sound), the error does not occur.

A POSSIBILITY
I am in another forum on the subject, in Brazil. Many people are reporting that the problem stopped after they uninstalled a software called WARSAW by Gas Technology. In Brazil, this software is used by many Banks for security in transactions ... I also had the same software installed. I already uninstalled and the problem has disappeared, for now. I will continue to observe in the next few days.
If you have similar sofware installed, it may be an option to try to uninstall to see if the problem continues.

In more general terms, I do strongly recommend Step 4D below.

I'm having the same problem. I'm not certain, but seems to have popped up after the 2018 update. It is inconsistent. There are times when I can drag a clip without a crash, but the problem has become so frequent I had to downgrade to 2017. Sad!

I just updated to the latest version of Premiere Pro 2018 - Version 12.1.1 (Build 10) and have suddenly started having this problem. Whenever I try to drag a clip ending to shorten or lengthen it, the whole program freezes. Sometimes I am able to force quit and restart Premiere but it always happens again as soon as I try to drag a clip ending. Sometimes it freezes my whole computer and I have to force a restart.
I am on Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.5.
Is there any fix for this bug? I have never experienced this before and it is totally shutting down my ability to edit.

Here's something that may help you.
1 - access the wrench tool in the Sequence panel.
2- disabled Composite Preview during trim.
Let us know if that helps.

I talked to an Adobe support person on the phone a month or so back and they said Adobe's OpenCL and Mac High Sierra aren't playing well together. They told us to switch to the Metal renderer via project settings. Its a bit slower than the OpenCL but we haven't had the same problem with crashing.
You also have to delete your old preview files and a few other things on project's that were already using the OpenCL but I don't remember what they were off the top of my head. I think it was something with pointing premiere to a new 12.0 folder.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately it didn't help for me. I tried Metal and software only and deleted all cache diles and its still freezing for me whenever i try to draf a clip ending. Totally unusable right now

There was something with unlinking the 12.0 premiere folder and setting up a new one. I would try calling Adobe to talk to them about it.

I'm having the same issue.
Since upgrading to Premiere Pro CC 2018 v12.1.1 in April 2018, the application has been crashing regularly when I attempt to resize or trim a clip in the timeline. I have had two support sessions with Adobe Support so far, where my preferences were reset. Although this seems to help for an hour or so, the problem always returns. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software multiple times. I have changed project settings to ‘Software Only’ rendering. When the crash occurs, the spinning ‘beach ball’ will appear and the app becomes unresponsive. When I force quit, an error (sometimes) appears that says ‘A serious error has occurred that requires Premier Pro CC to shut down’,
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
