I'm a multi-year professional editor and I've just upgraded my rig to a Mac Studio M1 Max. Upon attepmting 4K export (which I have successfully done hundreds of times on my PC) I repeatedly get this message:

Export Error
Error compiling movie.

Export Error

Failed to create encoder.

Writing with exporter: HEVC (H.265)
Writing to file: /Volumes/(REDACTED).mp4
Writing file type: HEVC
Around timecode: 00;00;00;00
Component: HEVC (H.265) of type Exporter
Selector: 9
Error code: 3

Please help!

I had this issue too, but switching from Software to Hardware in the 'performance' in encoding settings fixed it

What do you have at the begining of the timeline? transitions? empty frames? a corrupt file maybe?

Thanks for the response. There's just a clip that starts with a film dissove and a preset look applied to it, no empty frames and the file can't be corrupt because I was able to export the full project in 1080 without any problem.

Everything I've been able to find in regards to this kind of export error point to changing the Renderer dropdown in the Video Rendering and Playback from the Project Settings to Software Only, but that dropdown is grayed out and set to "Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (Metal) - Recommended" (screeshot attached) which I read has somethign to do with the M1 Max chip consolidation. Sorry but I can't find that post now for reference, otherwise I would link it.

Any update on this??? Ive tried tackling this before when I watched a youtuber manage his export settings while using a Mac. I am not able to change the mercury playback. Therefore, I continue to get the Error 3 message when trying to export using the HEVC codec.
