Premiere Pro -> Media Encoder Output File location

I'll put this in the suggestions box, but at the moment for the output files in Media Encoder randomly default to some previous directory even when the output location isn't set. (probably the last time you saved the queue). I would much prefer it if it mirrored AE's behaviour with Media Encoder where it creates a specific folder for output files inside the folder the project resides in. This does not seem to be an option at the moment and for the life of me I can't work out why htey can program this into After Effects but not Premiere.

Have you tried going Media Encoder Preferences > General and checking "Specify output file destination" and setting a default directory for exports?

There may be some scenarios where this destination doesn't apply, but it should for most if not all new outputs you add to the queue. That said if you're adding a single item to the queue from Premiere, I believe it will reference whatever directory you've set in the Export Settings dialogue box in Premiere. I don't believe that has a default output directory, if I'm not mistaken.

Of course. That is not the behaviour I'm asking for. I store all my exports/previews in the Project folder under a suitably named folder. I don't want to have to set that every time I switch projects in the day. I want it to work the same way AE works, where it stores it in a separate folder under the same directory the project resides in.

By suggestion box, I hope you meant UserVoice ?

That is where all such things need to be posted ... and if you go there, you should be able to find quite a few postings on this. Yea, a lot of users would like the ability to set default export locations either over-all or per-project from Premiere.

So ... go there, search, find the best one or make your own. Post the link back here, and I'll be thrilled to go upvote it. Adobe's upper managers live by metrics, and U-V is one of their main metric input sources. Give them some metrics ...

TBH, I lose track of what Adobe call their feedback. It used to be called something like bugs and suggestions but thanks for the tip that it's called user voice now.  BTw - always appreciate all the work you do on the forum - thanks!

Here's my post - please people upvote this one.

I upvoted yours but this one already had a dozen votes. (There were others also)

Thanks - mine's a little clearer I think. Plus I've advocated an easy way to do it - a Send to Adobe Media Encoder option (which bypasses the whole export dialog) which I think is also a big workflow improvement. I upvoted the other one as well 🙂

BTW - that was well found. I did a quick search and came up with a hundred odd pages most unrelated so I gave up and just went ahead with a new one.
