Premiere Pro Just Stops Responding To Commands WHENEVER I ZOOM IN OR OUT

Hi all

So I have a project that I am pretty close to finishing and for some reason PP has just stopped responding to commands. Most commands if not all just stop as soon as I zoom in or out on the timeline.

I hit space bar to play or stop and nothing happens. I try to scrub through the timeline but can't select the playhead....

It all just stops responding after zooming.

Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have a solution?

Currently if I go up and select file and save it normally resets it and i can select things again for a few more minutes before it stops responding again. Once that doesn't work I have to completely shut down PP and open it again.

It's really holding up my workflow and ability to finish my work.

Thanks in advance for any and all help !

It sounds like Premiere communicating with your video card and/or your video card is having issues. Zooming is a display intensive thing and so something is causing your Premiere to choke. Here are some things to try:

  • Disable your GPU Acceleration if it is on. This will make Premiere switch primarily to your system resources. If its a video card issue--this can sometimes be secure. Only issue is that you may get slower performance---but its better than no performance!

  • Make sure your video card drivers are up-to-date. On the flip side, if your drivers were update recently--this can also be the issue. If this is the case--you will need to roll your video card drivers back to whatever version update you had before.

  • Flush Preview Cache and the Cache database (see Preferences > Media Cache (you can also flush manually by going to your Previews Cache folder). Preview cache can contribute to a host of issues and playback is one of them.

Try some of this and get back to us! Good Luck!
