Premiere Pro Only Exporting One of Frame of Clip

Community Beginner ,
Jul 31, 2024 Jul 31, 2024

I'm runnning the latest versions of Premiere and Media Encoder (24.5) on an iMac running Sonoma 14.6 and quite often export many clips from a timeline by sending them to Media Encoder. I've never had any problems until this week when both Media Encoder and Premiere randomly started only exporting the first frame of the clips (say it's a 15 second clip, the file will be a still of just the first frame for 15 seconds).

I tried clearing all cache first fast from both to no avail, tried many variations of timeline and sequence settings, uninstalled and reinstalled Creative Cloud entirely and used the Creative Cloud Cleaner tool to no avail, and finally did a completely fresh install of the Sonoma OS along with Creative Cloud and the issue persists.

I've tried putting the clips in a bin and exporting all the clips at once, but it randomly misses some while duplicating others. Render and replacing the clips from a duplicated sequence also causes similar random issues so I've always manually sent each clip to Media Encoder since it also allows me to change the naming convention for the clips being exported.

Does anyone have experience with this issue? There are other similar questions asked in the past but they don't seem to have needed nearly this much troubleshooting and were solved with updating or reinstalling.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Try a more standard esport setting such as UHD.

Make new project and import old one: see how that goes.

Hi Trevor,

Can you tell us more about your media, sequence, and export settings? Specifically, it would be helpful to know:

Media Information:
- What is the format and codec of your original media files?
- What is the resolution and frame rate of your media?
- Are there any specific settings or characteristics of the media files (e.g., variable frame rate)?

Sequence Settings:
- What are the resolution and frame rate of your sequence?
- Are there any effects, transitions, or adjustments applied to the sequence?

Export Settings:
- What format and codec are you exporting to?
- What are the resolution and frame rate settings for the export?
- Are you using any specific presets or custom settings for the export?
- Are you exporting the entire sequence or just a specific part of it?

This information will help us better understand the issue and provide more accurate troubleshooting steps.

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks for the reply.

They are the same settings I've used for over a year and the same issue applies when I try with a wide variety of older clips as well.

Media information:

- 5120x2700 HEVC

- 23.976 fps

- Minor lumetri color adjustment applied to sequence

Export Settings:

- 5120x2700 HEVC H265

- 23.976 fps

- only preset used is a simple lumetri color

- many clips are laid out on a sequence and I export them individually or send them individually to Media Encoder (neither will work now)

Thanks for your help as I can't seem to find any plausible explanation or inconsistencies that would create these issues.

Also to add:

The footage is read/write from a new Samsung external SSD and nothing appears to be corrupted. The only way I can seem to get anything to export correctly now is re-exporting files that were already exported by placing them back in a sequence. Nothing else will export more than the first frame of the original file.

The iMac is a 2019 5k retina 3.6GHz 8 core i9, Radeon Pro 575x, with 40GB DDR4 memory and the machine isn't used for anything but Adobe CC and was just completely wiped with a fresh install of Sonoma yesterday.

Update and Resolved:

After over 2 hours talking to tech support and trying every method of troubleshooting under the sun, they told me it's a known issue that's already been relayed to their development team and has already fixed in the Beta version of Premiere and Media Encoder.

No variation in sequence or export settings made any difference in the latest release of Premiere or the previous 4 versions before it that I tried. Uninstalling and reinstalling Creative Cloud and removing all preference files also did not work nor did reformatting my entire mac and reinstalling Sonoma OS.

Putting my footage into new projects, new sequences, loaded onto my desktop vs an external ssd, removing all preferences, presets, settings, adjusting all export and sequence settings, trying H264, H265, ProRes, lower dimensions like UHD, nothing made any difference and all files were exported as a single frame (15 second long single frame for example).

All files export perfectly from the beta version of Premiere and Media Encoder, even when the project files are copied directly from the latest release version of Premiere with all previous settings and effects intact.

Hopefully the beta is released soon as it's incredibly frustrating being under a tight deadline and have Premiere stop working, and I pray nobody else experiences the same. After many many hours of troubleshooting and staying up all night reformatting my machine to stay on track, Adobe was gracious enough to give me 7 days of account credit for my trouble.

After moving to premiere 2025 I experienced the same problem. Spend hours last night trying to find a fix, but without any luck. Ill give it a shot with customer service tonight for one last shot. If that doesnt work ill dust up my old laptop and do it with a previous version of premiere. Will work twice as slow, but deadlines are more important at this point.

Change RANGE to entire source.  Not sure what switched it to custom, but this worked for me.  Was only capturing One Frame Before I switched.

That was not the issue for me, and it did require downloading the Beta version, although this issue does seem to have been resolved in the latest 2025 release (for now). In my case it started happening very randomly and no other versions would correctly export the clips except the unreleased beta.

I don't want to export the entire source because I have many individual clips on my timelines. It has to be set to "source in/out" which was causing Premiere to export only a single frame when entire clips were being selected.

This solved it for me. Thank you so much. This reply should be getting more attention.

Whatever this issue is, it nothing nothing to do with file types, codecs or operating systems. I export video out of Premier 3 times per week and I never change a thing. This just happened out of nowhere.

Same problem and switching the range worked perfectly for me.

Update 6 Months Later: This issue still persists in Premiere Pro 2025 and remains unresolved in the latest Beta version.

After performing a fresh install of macOS Sequoia on my iMac and installing the latest Premiere Pro (25.1), this problem immediately resurfaced. Despite thoroughly rechecking all file and export settings, making new projects, new sequences, trying other recent 2025 versions, no adjustments resolve the issue—exports only include the first frame of each clip (e.g., a 45-second clip of just the first frame).

The only solution I could find was going many versions back to a 2024 release of Premiere Pro and Media Encoder, which works without issue. These were fresh installs of both MacOS and the respective version of Premiere and Media Encoder along with new projects and sequences created within each version, media being added to each install seperately, with no old project files or any settings carried over.

Adobe's tech support is useless, and our pricey subscription fees are clearly going toward someone’s third house in Aspen. At this point, save yourself the pain and just bang your head on the table—it’s faster, easier, and infinitely less frustrating.
