Bizarre... My PC has the latest Adobe CC installed, Premiere, AE, Photoshop etc. This morning I used Premiere without issue. There should be a whole list of recent projects... I know that if I remove a drive, or move files to a new folder, the recent projects that no longer appear to be present, won't show... but in this case, I haven't moved anything, all projects are stored on the PC's internal SSD. Yet I start Premiere and recent projects is blank. Sort of concerned about that.
Anyone hear of this? I'm hoping yes that there's a quirk.

By any chance did you reset preferences?

I did not myself explicitly reset preferences... is there a way that can happen implicitly?

Same user account... the only account I ever use.

Re-setting preferences is one of the actions that will cause the recent projects to disappear from Premiere but it does take a little effort. Here are those steps.
To restore default preference settings, hold down Alt (Windows) or Option (Mac OS) while the application is starting.

That may well have happened. I don't recall holding alt while doing that but it could have happened.

would preferences being reset also have reset the cache location? I have a custom folder off the root for that... it has not changed.

Depends... I think that if you open a previous project where Premiere accessed the root folder it would see it.

Never heard of trashing pref deleting files.
When did you encounter this or heared or read about this?

It's been around as long as I know. It's a good way to reset things when Premiere starts acting unpredictably.

Trashing preferences has been around for a very long time.
Trashing pref causing to dele files?
That is how rumors start.

The original question was that the list of recent projects was missing. Trashing preferences will cause the list of recent projects to disappear from the splash screen or the recent files list. I never said that any files were deleted. That is how rumors start.

This has happened to me for years, iow that the Preferences are deleted automatically. I have not yet figured out if they were deleted when i closed the app or if it happens the next time i open it. No, i don´t have any key pressed down when it happens and no project files or media are deleted. All project can be opened by using Open.
I always close Premiere Pro by pressing Ctrl+Q.

I manually deleted preferences yesterday by holding the ALT key while starting Premiere... I did this to test and see if it would reset the Cache location... it appeared to have no effect on that setting. After that, I continued to use Premiere... my "recent projects" list was building up again... I believe I saw it clear again after that... meaning I saw the "automatic reset of preferences" issue. I know this because since having purposefully ALT-started to reset my prefs, I knew I had opened one particular project which was not in the list... and the list only had the one item I'd last opened... I expected 3 or 4 projects. I need to keep an eye out for this to occur again to be certain... after that I'll report a bug on that.

That is the expected result. The Cache location is used and shared by more Adobe apps, for example Adobe Media Encoder. So when the Premiere Pro Preferences are cleared it looks for the "global" Cache location and that´s why that setting appears to be unchanged. The same goes when clearing the Preferences for Adobe Media Encoder.
The problem with this "auto reset" is that there not seem to be a reliable way to recreate it and that makes it hard to fix. It just happens for no obvious reason and i have never been able to find out what triggers it. I have filed numerous bug reports over the years regardning this very issue. Adobe has never been able to recreate it either.

It's the "recent project file" list as shown in File/Open Recent as well (where I usually access it beyond when open Premiere for the first time). I hadn't seen this issue until the other day which is odd because I've been using the same version for a while.

This just started happening to me 3 days ago. I did not reset preferences then, and even if I did, I have worked on projects since, and there is nowhere on startup for the "recents" to appear. Something strange here. I am using 2021.

I should also add, if I use the dropdow from "file > open recent" all my recents are in there - just not in the startup screen.

Hi Vincent,
Do you have Digital Anarchy Transcriptive or any other similar third party extension installed?
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
not that I am aware of. I haven't accepted any updates either in the past few months actually. So it is confusing to me why this only started 3 days ago. I can find no setting to turn on or off for the display. As I said, the recents are there, you just need to use the file drop down to recents. The startup page looks different as well - filled with thumbnails for tutorials.
Thanks,
Vince

Update! I found the issue. The startup page was defaulting to "learn". If I click on "home" instead of "learn" the recents are there.
