Premiere Pro Red Flashing Frames help!

New Here ,
Jun 03, 2018 Jun 03, 2018

so I recently bought a Blackmagic production camera 4K as I wanted to up my quality for my YouTube short films, however a problem I keep having is whenever I place the files into premiere, I will have some weird random flashing red frames. Some files vary from having a few red flashes or a lot which completely destroys any attempt at using that shot. I use proxies so that I can easily edit the footage but the problem is still there esepcially when media encoder is making the proxy.

I have reinstalled premiere, I have used previous versions but the problem still persists.

One massive thing to note is that I have imported the dng files into after effects and haven’t encountered this issue, but the file sizes are huge to export into AVI then edit on premiere with.

I have deselected enable accelerated H.264 decoding, which is something many tutorials have said fix this issue.

I’m not extremely tech savvy although I know the problem must lay within premiere as after effects can export and play the clips without having to deal with the red flashing frames.

Hopefully someone can help fix this urgent issue!

Hi KarlHorizonMediaUK,

Have you tried transcoding these files to Cineform, DNxHR, or ProRes? What happens if you do?

Thanks,
Kevin

Exactly the same thing, still red frames.

I spoke to someone from Adobe over the phone who took control of my PC and said the only way I can edit the footage is to place it in After Effects and select "force alphabetical order" and render the files within after effects, that takes us way too much space and time to do so. The problem seems to be premiere and media encoder do not see the files all together, I have to click force alphabetical order in After Effects also, otherwise a notice pops up telling me a certain amount of frames are missing.Media Encoder 1.png

KarlHorizonMediaUK,

You can likely transcode these files in a free version of Resolve. Transcode them and import them into Premiere Pro. Certain formats of CDNG are not yet supported, but I am advocating for that support. Hope we will see it soon. Does that work for you as a workaround for now?

Thanks,
Kevin

This definitely works.  I do it frequently for a client who edits in Premiere Pro.  The Cineform exports out of Resolve look and play very nice in PP.

The down side is that you have to do all your coloring first.  That's not always ideal.

Both Premiere and AME when they can not process a frame insert a red frame, this is so that the video does not lose synchronization.

A solution is as mentioned above go to the Menu Edit> Preferences> Media and uncheck "Enable accelerated h.264 decoding (requires restart)".

The other solution is to nest the video with red frames, open the nested sequence, in effects controls lower the opacity to 99% and process the nested sequence, in the editing the timeline instead of having the video will have the nested sequence.
