why does it take so long for Premiere to send files to Media Encoder for proxy creation? it is SO slow AND sucks all the RAM out of my system. I'm seriously considering switching my entire workflow to Resolve just because of this. If anyone knows of a way to spreed this process up, I'd love to hear it

Please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card and your source properties... And tell us just how slow this is. I'm working on a very large 4K documentary project and when sending 30 or so clips to media encoder for proxy creation, it takes a couple of minutes max...

it happens on multiple systems in our facility:
Wind10
64G of RAM
2x NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti graphics cards
The source footage is MXF 4K coming from a Harmonic Media Grid server
it took about 45 minutes just to add 100 files from Premiere to Media Encoder.
This happens on multiple systems, some have 128G of RAM

That's definitely not a normal situation. I have no experience with the Harmonic Media Grid server, but I'd suspect that it may be involved with the problem. You might try reaching out to their support to see if they have any insight into the issue.

This is generally my experience of creating proxies in ME - it's always incredibly slow, multiple minutes sometimes per file. I have a standard windows 10 laptop with more than enough specs to handle this process.

I have no problems creating proxies... Please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card and your source properties and the settings you're using for your proxies... The type of your drives and how they're connected to your system can also be a factor that could be causing problems... The original poster on this thread was complaining how long it took to send the proxies to media encoder. Is this what you're talking about or how long it takes to create the proxies in media encoder... two very different things.

Hi Michael, thanks for the reply.
I also have the issue of how long it takes to send the proxies to ME (30+ seconds per file), no issue with encoding time.
However, I have just recreated all my proxy presets and it's now about 1 second per proxy, which I would say is normal behavior.
I wish I could say what changed that resolved the issue to help others. All I can say is that there was a conflict between having both the 'show watermark' enabled and the legacy 'overlay option' in the effects tab. the result was neither a watermark nor overlay would show. Not sure if that is realated to the poor performance, but I would suggest the issue lies with the proxy preset settings.
Thanks for your time.
Ben

En mi uso normal de creación de proxies no he tenido problemas de lentitud, salvo que tenga algunas otras aplicaciones abiertas y este editando (after effects por ejemplo) de lo contrario no he notado problema alguno.
