1) Load project that uses intermediate exports in a sequence.
2) Open project that contains source for those intermediate exports.
3) Close project with intermediates in a sequence.
3) Try to export from source project to intermediate file.
Premiere won't let you. It still thinks those intermediate exports are being used in a currently loaded project.
The only solution is to close Premiere and reopen the source project in order to export the intermediates.
This indicates a scary (and likely) condition. Premiere never lets go of media that is loaded for a project.... until it is shut down. Maybe this is why Premiere often takes MINUTES to shut down, or just hangs, forcing one to use task manager (in Windows) to kill the 'Premiere' process.
This also brings up another annoying Premiere feature. Premiere thinks that if a file keeps it's same name, none of it's attributes have changed. Just try changing an intermediate's length, video codec, etc, outside of Premiere and then loading a project with that file. None of the metadata for that file are updated. It still thinks the file is the same as before, even though easy to find out information, such as size, length, and date modified are available. The only way that I know to correct this is to change the name of the file, which quickly destroys any organized naming convention you may have for intermediates..... one can also search for the cached Adobe file and delete it or delete all of the media cache files.
