Preview Window Often Shrunk When I Open Premiere Pro

Community Beginner ,
Mar 30, 2025 Mar 30, 2025

Often, but not always, Premiere Pro opens the preview window at a reduced size when I open the program. Screen shots are attached of what I save the workspace as and how it opens.

What I've Tried:

- Updating the software --> made no difference

- Saving the workspace --> keeps happening anyway

- Saving as a new workspace --> still happens

It's annoying that I have to resize that window over and over.

Hi @rothra -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How do I write a bug report?

Please see the comment from Neil and MyerPj if you are using a custom workspace then you need to choose "Save Changes to this Workspace" once you have it setup the way you want.

Are you using a custom workspace? If so, it will typically save.

If using a built-in one, we can't save changes to them.

And there is also the dreaded 'Open workspace from Project' at the very bottom of the Workspaces menu, untick that if it is checked.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean.  I selected which Windows I wanted to display, moved them where I want, the said to save it as my workspace.

I don't have that option.  It also seems that Premiere updated to version 25.1 since I first posted this issue, so that option may have been there before, but isn't there now.

Please note, that this problem is not happening every time, but only about half of the time.

Steps to Set Up Workspace

  1. Open Premiere Pro
  2. Open project
  3. Go to Windows (in menu) and select the windows I want to display or not display
  4. Move each window to where I want it and the size I want
  5. Select the Workspace icon and save the workspace with desired name
  6. Work on the project
  7. Save the project, then close Premiere using the X in the top right (I use Windows)
  8. Later, reopen Premiere and that same project.

At that point, sometimes the video preview window is shrunk, sometimes it's not. Nothing else is different -- only the width of the preview window.

"choose "Save Changes to this Workspace""

I have done that multiple times, yet the problem of the sometimes shrinking window still happens.

Hi @rothra - Can you navigate to the menu bar under Window > Workspaces > see if you have checked "Import workspace from project". Can you provide any reproducible steps where you get this eror everytime?  Does it go back to the way you saved it if you select "Reset to Saved Layout"?

You are using the Workspaces <Button> - use the main menu bar at the top (left) - Windows menu Windows/Workplaces - Import workspace from Project.
