Question

Problem when dragging video from source monitor

  • December 12, 2024

I have a sequence with the video attributes that I already changed, before when I double clicked on the clip, and dragged the videos from the source monitor the attributes were maintained, but now every time I want to do that the attributes go back to as if I had not made any changes. Does anyone know what could be happening? Thanks

@Stan Jones

Thank you for the video reference. So you are double clicking the clip in the sequence and not match framing correct? My understanding of how Premiere works currently is that the only settings source clips retain once applied in a sequence will be Lumetri settings and nothing else. Can you test applying a base Lumetri setting to the clip and then trying to drop it in and let me know if that is what you are attempting to achieve? I will test this on the PC I can not reproduce the results of your video on Mac. Every time I adjust a clips settings and double click I go to the source file and do not see any of the changes applied on the sequence.

Thank you

@Stan Jones

Would you mind sharing with us a video of what you are seeing? I have done the same steps and still opacity and scale does not reflect on the source clip.

Thank you

@IanB_360,

That's true for source clips opened from the Project Panel, but when opened from the sequence, the clip keeps its sequence in/out points, and a variety of other properties - in my test, for example, opacity and scale.

When opened from the Project Panel, the source monitor tab shows "Source: [name of the actual clip]". When opened from the sequence, the tab shows "Source: [name of sequence]: [name of the actual clip]: [sequence start time of this clip instance]". You can have multiples of the same clip open in the source monitor.

Hi @agustinv86711249 ,

Would you mind posting a video of what it is exactly you are experiencing? I am trying to understand the issue you have posted but from my understanding Premiere Pro has never kept the effects control settings set on a clip on the source clip itself. The source clip monitor should not have the opacity or any other effects you have set to a clip in the sequence. It will go back to the original source file once you double clip that in the sequence but does not retain effects applied in the sequence. However if you drag the sequence you have applied effects to into your source monitor and create a brand new sequence you can drag the clip from the source monitor ( which is not a source file clip but rater the sequence itself) into a new sequence and the effects will be retained.

Thank you

Ian

@agustinv86711249,

I hope someone will test in 25.1.

I updated my graphics driver (RTX 3070) to your version 566.36. Win 10, tested on 25.0.0 and Beta 25.2.0.50.

Changes to scale and opacity are maintained. I am dragging from the Source Monitor image (video and audio) to the same sequence.

  • Issue - I am in my sequence, with a clip with the opacity and scale modified, I double click on the clip that is in the timeline, when I want to drag the clip from the source monitor to the sequence the clip does not keep the changed attributes
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 25.1
  • Operating system - W10
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • CPU - Ryzen 5 1700x

    • GPU - Gtx 1660 Super

    • GPU driver - 566.36
    • RAM - 16gb

    • Hard Drive - Internal SSD

  • Video format: - HEVC 4:2:0

  • Workflow details: It's a normal sequence in 1920x1080
  • Steps to reproduce - In the timeline I have a clip, i make some changes in the scale and the opacity, make double click on the video, that will open the source monitor, drag the video from there to the same timeline.
  • Expected result - That the atributes changed before (scale and opacity) remain in the dragged clip
  • Actual result -  The scale and the opacity mantian as if i never made a change

I'm using version 25.1, also in W10, as it stopped working I went back to the previous version of premiere but no luck. I mainly used it for scaling changes, but since it stopped working I also tried with opacity and it doesn't work either.

Thanks; ought to be working. What specific version of PR? I am Win 10;  have not yet updated to 25.1.0.

What attributes are not working?
