Problem with Audio channels in timeline

I have set up the the project and sequence in the  timeline to display 2 audio channels ( tracks ) example : ch.1 and ch.2 . However when I put an audio clip into the timeline 3 and a lot more extra audio tracks are automatically added to the timeline which is very confusing and difficult to work with.

Why does this happen although I have only selected  to have 2 audio channels / tracks displayed in the timeline ?

If you bring in a file that has more audio tracks (say 5.1) Premiere will add those tracks automatically.
