Hi there I am currentyl working on a project that has been sent to us from another company , they have been using the production workflow which has its benefits but some things I just haven't wokred out yet and we have tight deadline, one of the simple things would be best practices for applying effects, doe sone just simply apply effects or time/speed changes to the clip in the main project or does one have to find the footage that is being referenced an dthen apply there? Seems lie a long way round but just wanting to know what the best practices are?

Just apply to the clip wherever you are using it. Don't over-think, the Production process is quite simple and rock-solid.

Hi Neil,

Thanks for that, I'll take that advice on. I'm usually not one to over-think but don't want to mess up their production as have to send it back to them, but will just do what I need to. Thanks again.

In the operations of Premiere, a couple things would help you to better understand.

Effects applied to clips on a sequence are actually not linked to the clip in the bin, but with the Sequence data that clip is used within. So Premiere does not 'store' effects used in the Project panel bins ...

With one exception: any effect applied directly to clips in bins or to their Source tab in the Effects Control Panel will be applied to the clip in the bin. Which is handy for some things.

And within a Production, Pr "references" clips used in Project X that come from Project Y as 'from' that other project, and grabs the data about that clip from the other project if and when needed. And the user doesn't have to do anything.

Even in my small one-person shop, I run near totally in Production mode. Vastly better. All my year of work organized ... my sound libraries always 'loaded' in one project, available instantly to any other project.

As are my b-roll shoots ... and many other assets.

Incredibly awesome workflow. SO much simpler! So much better organized.

Neil
