Production: duplicates media and folders when copying a sequences from one project to another

One of the great features while using Productions is that once the media is ingested, it doesn't duplicate the clips or the folders when you use them on different projects within the same production.

But in the last few months, this has changed. When I try to copy/paste a sequence from one project to another, i also duplicates the folders with the media and multicam sequences used in that sequence.
I've notices that it only does it when the sequence contains a multicam clip.
If I (or any othe editor working on the same production) want to change/edit/correct/update the original multicam clip, it doesn't take any effect on my new sequence because it is using de duplicated multicam as a reference.

Why is that? Will it be fixed?
We have updated the Premiere Pro several times, but it keeps happening.

Hi @El Rugido 338430147uufk,

I hope you're doing OK. Are you still having this issue? It sounds like a solution is provided for you here. Have you tried it? Have you updated Premiere Pro to 24.6? Let the team know if the issue is better now, or not. I will move your thread to the "Discussions" forum while we await your response. I apologize for the problem.

Thanks,
Kevin

No, it hasn't. The video the I attached is from version 24.5.
I have also tried the latest beta build (24.6.0 compilation 47) and the problem remains.

Hi @El Rugido,  I am unable to reproduce this on windows in the latest beta with my own production.  Any chance you can provide your production with a step by step account of what you did to encounter this?  I don't need the media, just the production folder and instructions of which projects contain the sequences that have these problems.

Thanks!

I've just created a nuew Production in the latest beta.
I've created 3 projects inside:

 - footage and sync interviews
 - editor 1
 - editor 2

Whenever I use any of the sync interviews (multicam) in a sequence from another proyect, I duplicates.
If copy the sequences from one project to another (Editor 1 to Editor 2), if it contains a clip in multicam or nested, It keeps duplicating these clips/sequences.

In previous versions, it also duplicated the folders containing the media. But still duplicating and creating new sequences is a problem when working on a collaborative production. It used to be linked to the original media and clips. Now, If I edit or change any sequence from the first Project (- footage and sync interviews), it doesn't apply to the other projects because they have their own copy of this material.

You can check it on this video:

@El Rugido

Thank you for the video, yet I am still not reproducing.  I suspect it has something to do with the makeup of your sequences, but I can't confirm until I get an example production.  Please send me the production folder.  Again, I should not need the media.

Also, if you detach your proxies, does it still happen?

Thanks again for your help!
Here's the production folder I created as a test in the beta 24.6.0 : Production folder

I tried detaching the proxies, the it keeps behaving the same way.

I have also noticed that now the problem only remains while dragging a regular sequence into a timeline from another project.

If the sequence that I'm dragging was synchronized and created as a multicam sequence, there's no duplication.

Here's a video showing this:  Video (copying Multicam and sequence)

Thanks!

Hi @El Rugido - I see what is happening, thank you for your video and project files.  The files you are seeing duplicates of are actually sequences, and those are made to copy between projects.

Your editing footage should be placed inside Multi-Camera Source Sequences.  In the footage project you provided the file "INTERVIEW 05" is what you want to cut into your sequences.

An easy way to solve this using the "CAR CHASE" Sequence, is to duplicate "INTERVIEW 05" and label it "CAR CHASE A" Right-Click on "CAR CHASE A" and select open in Timeline.  Then Select All and delete everything in the sequence. Now open "CAR CHASE" Sequence, Select All, and copy everything.  go back to "CAR CHASE A" Sequence and paste your footage into that sequence.  This will give you the car chase sequence in a Multi-Camera Source Sequence that you can edit with.  Do the same thing with your other interview sequences.

Now we can solve your duplicated media problem.  Open your other project with the sequence that has the duplicated media.  Open the sequence in the timeline, right click on your clips in the sequence and make sure Multi-Camera > Enabled is selected.  Now select your sequence in your project and go to your menu bar and select Edit.  You will see an option labeled "Reassociate Source Clips" this will open a dialog window to select the project that contains your footage.  after you select your project you should be all set.  Let us know if you have any questions.
