Every time I relaunch Premiere, the Project Panel moves to the lower left panel group, even though I prefer in the upper right Panel Group. This also happens in my custom workspaces when I click "reset to saved layout", even though I saved with the panel where I want.
This started with CC2019. Is this a new "feature"?
I have unchecked "import workspaces..."
I have dumped my custom workspaces in the finder and started from scratch.
Any ideas?
I know it's been 3 years, but I have been experiencing this bug for a while on my iMac at work, and I found a workaround.
I discovered that if the Media Browser panel (that I never used) shares the panel with the Project panel, it won't move.
I'm basically using the media browser as a boat anchor for the project panel lol.
Try placing the media browser panel in the same panel group as the project panel. It should keep it from changing position when you next start a project.

Try resetting the preferences:

I have tried that, but it only lasted a day or so, before it started again. It's quite a drag to keep rebuilding my prefs. as you know.
Would Sync Settings possibly be causing this? I just realized it was on.
FWIW, this has also been happening on my home work station using my personal account. Again, "Import Workspaces from Projects" is unchecked.

Tried all of the above on both machines. Project Window continues to move.

Believe its a bug.

It is a bug - I reported this quite some time ago and had a long session via remote desktop with an Adobe support guy. Seems that Adobe are very slow fixing bugs these days - if they ever get fixed. I also have a bug with the workspaces panel - if you move it somewhere else, it breaks and doesn't show any workspaces. Seriously rubbish response from Adobe who used to be reasonably good with bug fixes - not any more.

Fixing bugs is not a shiny allotment of effort that Marketing can rally around. I have tried every imaginable fix.

Dang, @Ann Bens! I'll have to test it out on macOS. This one is a long time issue.

Yep, 5 years in and STILL having this problem! Sort it out Adobe! Such a daft issue to be having to deal with EVERY time a project loads! Also have "revert to saved layout" to bring it back and, guess what?! The project window has moved again, back to where I like my Effects window to be (I do NOT like them being in the same place!!!!) SO stupid and so frustrating!

Sorry if youve already tried this, but if you place the media browser panel in the same group as the project panel, it should stay there upon restarting or upon opening a new project.

Hey @Ann Bens,
Are you still seeing this issue? I noticed I have a Dual Monitors workspace available. Does it honor the Project panel position? Or is the issue only with custom workspaces? @stephenw_OhioHealth, can you comment? Let me know.
Thanks,
Kevin

Kevin,
I've got 9 custom workspaces using at least 3 of my 4 monitors. ALL have a panel group on my left monitor that has the Productions folders and all projects in it. No edge of the panel group actually touches the edge of that monitor screen.
And every other time I launch Premiere, one or two projects that WERE in the Production/Projects panel group suddenly hop to the lower left quadrant panel of the main UI monitor.
Have for years, and if still doing this by NAB, I will once again complain to the staffers about this. As I have done every year since NAB 2014.
Wonderful people in all, but for the love of criminy, can we get that fixed?

I have dual monitor. But I basicly work of an UDH monitor
The second one is very old 1280x1024 just for transmit.
I have 2 custom workspaces (never use the build in ones) and it hardly ever honors the Project Panel position.
Often make new workspaces or reset to saved layout to see if it has been fixed: but alas.
Import from project is turned off.

I see this as well in 2025. I have a custom workspace and always place the Project panel in the upper left pane and *every time* i create a new project the Project panel is auto-placed to the upper right pane. Far too often this happens when i open excisting projects as well. (No dual monitor here)
Windows > Workspaces > Reset to Saved Layout won´t help eventhough the saved layout has the Project panel in the upper left pane. Manually moving the panel back, day after day, year after year. It´s time to fix it, once and for all!
Why is this still an issue in 2025?

This is with custom workspaces, as I really have never used the built in ones. Either I have grown used to hunting for the project panel and do not pay much attention anymore. It still hapens, but seems intermittent. I will pay attention today, and share later.

Holy cow! 🙂
Placing the Media Browser panel in the same panel group as the Project panel did indeed fix it here, at least in the three test i have done this far. I had the Media Browser+Project panel in the upper right panel group, and when i moved both to the upper left panel group and saved it as a new workspace the Project panel seems to always stay in the upper left pane when i create a new project. So it seems that the Project panel for some reason opens up in the same panel group that the Media Browser lives in.
I hope that this issue/bug will be fixed before adding any other feature to the UI.
