proxy media and full resolution media must have matching audio channels

I feel like you should be able to attach proxies to full resolution media based on video and not just audio - I have hours worth of proxies that a DIT made and the audio channels don't match the source files so I can't connect them.
I can do this the traditional way, working with proxies, until picture lock, unlinking and then re-linking to full resolution media, however I'd prefer to have both on hand in Premiere.

Hello @FeedbackCommunityMember,

Thanks for the message. It’s been a long time since you filed this bug. I apologize for the lack of a response. Are you still having this issue? This is likely fixed with the latest version with QuickTime .mov file availability and using this format for proxies. Can you check?

I'll move your post to the Discussions board while we await your information.

Thanks,

Kevin

Project Bin --> Select all the footage --> Right Click "Modify" --> Audio Channels, Select the appropriate number (I.e.: so if its 2 channels, then swap everything to left and right for 1 and 2). Then link it again

Had this issue today with Adobe Premier 2025 - so it's not been fixed. After various attempts heres what worked for me:

1. create a backup your project file

2. open your project file

3. right click your footage bin, click Proxy and click "DETACH proxies"

4. right click on your footage bin, click Proxy and then click "Reconnect full resolution media"

5. reconnect to the raw footage and your done

Hope this helps someone and hope adobe sort this issue out as it's a proper head scratcher with such a simple solution!!

It is mid-2025, Adobe. Please fix this. It is ridiculous for something so small to completly upheave my workflow and cost me so much time

Totally agree, this feels like another example where Premiere doesn't support more professional workflows. Often times I get transcodes with embedded multi channel audio that it would be great to be able to link to the raw rushes so that I can do resizes etc but this isn't possible due to the 'audio channels do not match' situation. WTF do audio channels have to do with picture?! Let me do my work Premiere!

Hi,

I read your note. Have you tried using proxies using H.264 in a QuickTime container? See if that works for you.

Thanks,
Kevin
