"Legacy title" panel size changes every time I reopen

Hello Adobe community,

I am doing a new project where I have to use a lot of on screen text. I am using "Legacy Title" to create those text.

The problem that I am having is that the size of the panels change every time I reopen the titles.

Below are the images:

1) First time I open it. This is normal. All three panels are divided properly.

Capture_01.PNG

2) Second time I open: Look at the left and right panels. Right panel gets extended and the left one gets squished.

Capture_02.PNG

3) Third time I open the title. Again look at the left and right panels.

Capture_04.PNG

This gets really annoying when dealing with lots of on screen text!

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi, we fixed the issue where the legacy titler panels weren't showing up at all in the default workspaces. Unfortunately, this fix came at the end of the 13.0.2 cycle and we ran out of time to fix a side effect, where the panels aren't maintaining their original layout. Given that the original problem prevented access to the legacy titler panels, we wanted to provide that fix ASAP. We hope to get the layout resizing bug (now a separate issue) fixed soon. If you reset the workspace, that should r

Just because Adobe does not fix the Titler I am unhelpful, right....

I am just as much a user as you are. I case you have not noticed I am doing this all in my free time and don't get paid.

If you want Adobe to understand what is important to you let it be known here:

Ann Bens' comment is totally on-point, as a user-to-user helpful hint.

That Legacy Title will be gone soon. So why on earth would they spend time working on something they're dumping? It doesn't seem a reasonable expectation.

Doesn't make any difference whether any of us likes the old thing or not. That's just reality. As noted up above, a lot of the old 'obsolete' or 'legacy' items went for the big buh-bye this 15.x release. I was kinda suprised the Titler didn't join them.

There are some changes they need to make to the newer graphics workflow, and they're finally considering them. I was one of many users who were 'tested' through various ideas for alterations to the workflow using the EGP and mogrts. Many of the options shown involved bringing back parts of the Titler's workflow options to see how I'd use them ... and if I was interested in them.

I expect we'll see some changes to the EGP/mogrts operations fairly soon in the public beta. And after that, I would also expect that when those changes are rolled into the public release, the Titler will be gone.

You don’t seem to get the point. They said they fixed it two years ago and they never did. Don’t say it’s been fixed when it hasn’t been. This is is just another case of Adobe dropping the ball and there are 100 other issues like this not with “legacy” features. Another reason to join the mass exodus to Resolve.

"That Legacy Title will be gone soon."

Really?

Then why isn't it already gone? We've had maybe twenty updates since this thread began. If Legacy is on its way out - remove it. I'm in Ae for titles anyway. Kill then both and make a standalone Chyron app. Why leave LT and EGT in this tortured twilight of mid to low functionality? Honestly this entire issue is just idiotic.

Ann is being as helpful as any other user can be. You don't like the help provided, fine. But please, check out the link in her last post. Let me be very clear ...

All users dependent on the Legacy Titler need to check the latest public beta release and test migrating your titles/graphics forward to mogrts. NOW. Tell them how well this works for your graphics and where it fails you on the Public Beta forum!

Note the link she posted to the discussion on the Beta forum:

Discuss: Upgrade Legacy Titles to Essential Graphics

They have added a process to migrate much of the Titler created titles to mogrts in the public beta versions. This was something I and many others were "sampled" about only a couple weeks ago. It's already out in the public beta! Which in Adobesphere, is about as rapid a change as you will ever see.

And it's pretty obvious to most of us long-time users, that as soon as that migration process goes "live" in the public shipping version, we'll get maybe one update before the Titler is simply removed. If that. Once this feature is "live", they may simply remove the Titler to begin with.

So ... I would guess it will be gone on any release put out by sometime in July 2021. Might be a bit later, might be earlier. I wouldn't count on it being around after then. This is all total guess work, as they never tell us timelines. But ... I've been pretty heavily part of this community and watched development over the last quite a few years.

And it's not that Ann, myself, or any other user is unsympathetic ... we're just being realists.

What does "We ran out of time" to fix one of the issues. When is there moe "time" to fix it. This is rediculous. I have been learning DaVinci Pro and it's awesome and free. I'm just going to have to keep learning Davinci and soon not pay for Adobe Premier Pro. This way I will avoid life long frustration from an issue that should have been fixed 3 times over. For me to spend time writing this post is very rare as I do not waste time on contacting or commenting over most computer software problems. It's usualy on my end but not this time 🥵

Hey, you liked the old Titler, fine. It had some cool parts ... but was an ancient thing.

And some things they should have seen fit to include in the EGP/mogrts process from the start were left out. Yea, that was painful. They've brought back some of the Titler's useful items like all the keyboard shorts and such. They still don't give us a proper shapes 'library' which ticks me off, and I've been happy to communicate that very directly in-person at both NAB and MAX for several years.

That ... might change. At least some of the usability is going to come back to us ... finally. Way over due.

The Legacy Titler won't. It's gone. It's still "there" visible, but it's not where any further development is going to happen.

And having to completely learn a new software including a completely different graphics structure just because you don't like the changes of the current graphics structure ... seems odd to me. It means having to learn a lot more just to get back to square one.

But everyone's mileage always varies. I work in both PrPro and Resolve, and frequent the Resolve based forums on LGG and the BlackMagic forums. Where many users post their most troubling bugs and pain points and talk of how they'll have to leave if BM doesn't fix X, which of course varies by user.

Pretty much ... similar to here, actually.

That got me chuckling! So true, and yet, we might be wrong!

The tool is legacy, but the way it "lives" in the workspace is constantly changing. And its nature (a collection of panels in a window) made it an oddity. Yes, there are floating panels, but the legacy title seems to float in its own universe.

Yes, I hope they get it fixed!

I share in everyone's frustrations over a tool that has been around with PP since its inception.  I have learned with the Adobe Engineers and this Support Community page, that "The squeaky wheel (doesn't always) gets the grease."  The Legacy Title is both archaic and it doesn't seem like Adobe will do much about the bugs.

Since I have posted many times about these bugs on this and many other help communities and the same answer I keep getting (basically) is to stop using the Legacy Titler and move to Essential Graphics Panel b/c Adobe is not going to fix it.  I have found that the motion graphic text templates that I have found on the internet after installation are really close to the creative concept I am looking for.  Is it perfect?  Does it not have any bugs?  Oh, heck no.  But unless you want to great your own mogrts in AE, then the EGP is the closest thing to what I need.

Plus there are many free mogrts online but you have to do some digging.  The issue I have run into with the EGP is when you try to edit the mogrt it usually messes it up and I end up deleting it and trying another one.  Which actually adds more time to my project or what I am trying to achieve.

I know it doesn't answer the original question, but I found it was a better use of my time to use the EGP than try to resize all the elemental boxes in the Legacy Titler every time I opened it up to create a title.

Best of luck.

Thanks Randy. I expected your answer. I was hoping there might be an
alternative as I have thousands of strictly text titles I do not want to
lose. The size, fonts format etc. Are too much to redo. I seriously doubt
I will be here long enough to redo all of them.

This fix ("Reseting Window Layout") worked for me at first, but now it's right back to the problem before. Each time I reopen the Legacy Title tool, certain panels are squeezed off to the side, unusable. This is super frustrating. And amazingly I still prefer the Legacy Title tool to the horrific Essential Graphics panel...

So very, very frustrating.  I am working with a bunch of titles and I need to open them up to make quick fixes and all of the toolbars come up differently every time I open Legacy Titler.  I have to spend too much time resizing all the toolbars to get to a manageable size to see all of the options.  Highly frustrating for sure.  You think with the amount of money we have to pay monthly for CC they would fix something simple and such a useful tool as this!!!

In talking with the developers ... use of the Titler has been dropping since the EGP was created, fewer using it all the time. It's ancient code ... as Stan noted above, floats in its own every unique window, wasn't ever actually like most of the rest of the code anyway ... and the Future is all in the EGP.

For those few (relatively speaking compared to the whole user base) still using it ... yea, this ain't great. I do sympathize, as ... I'm still bummed about their dropping an actual grading app (SpeedGrade) replacing it with an effect (Lumetri) in Premiere. Lumetri has come a long way but still ... it ain't a full grading app.

The hardest thing getting started with the EGP coming from the Titler is they are such different mental models. Once you get past that, and start getting a feel for how the EGP works, it's very workable in general. And thankfully they finally ported all the Titler's keyboard shortcuts to simply "graphics" key-shorts, so they work the same in the mogrts and graphics of the EGP.

I haven't used the Titler except to test issues for someone in a couple years personally. And yea, some things are easier done by creating the mogrt in Ae and exporting to a Library. Doable.

But ... for graphics in Premiere ... the money from subscriptions is going into the EGP now. And that ain't gonna change.

I agree the EGP is AMAZING but how can you edit some of the mogrts?  There are some great free ones out there that are so much better than you can create in Legacy Titler. There are also many that you can find for very little $. I guess I should just get used to EGP or learn how to create mogrts myself. The Legacy Titler was THE THING when PP first came out. But maybe it's time to move on (kind of like Envore DVD that went away too). Thanks for the feedback.
