Rectified waveform display option removed?

Explorer ,
Jan 13, 2017 Jan 13, 2017

Previously, one could toggle on or off the display of rectified audio waveforms via the timeline wrench.  In PP 2017, this option appears to have been removed, resulting in the (for me at least) far less useful display of 'half' the waveform.  I hate this, passionately... it makes it harder to easily discern the dynamics of the track and visually locate 'hits'.  Has it really been removed, or is the option merely hiding somewhere?

Also, unrelated, but not worth starting an additional thread over, I am finding I can not see my waveforms when zoomed out to the whole sequence (2 min 16 sec in length), they only appear when I am zoomed in to display 5 seconds or less.

Hi Willie Frazier,

In PP 2017, this option appears to have been removed

Check the Panel menu, not the Timeline Settings menu.

I am finding I can not see my waveforms when zoomed out to the whole sequence.

I have no trouble seeing my waveforms when zoomed out. Can you try this is a new sequence?

Thanks,
Kevin

I'm afraid I do not know what you mean by the panel manu vs the the timeline settings menu...

edit - nvm I found the additional menu... seems needlessly redundant, but at least the option is still there...

Hi Willie Frazier,

Glad you got it sorted. Actually, the panel menu was long the place for all the Timeline options, but now we have the Timeline Settings menu, as well, which people simply call the "Wrench" menu (or the "Spanner" menu if you live outside of North America).

nvm I found the additional menu... seems needlessly redundant, but at least the option is still there...

I do agree that it is confusing having two menus. I will note that as feedback to carry back to the team.

Thanks so much for marking my answer as "Correct."

Regards,
Kevin

With respect to the audio waveforms only appearing when zoomed in, I agree that is not usual behavior.  I tried locating the the waveform cache files and deleting them so they would rebuild, but the location that Premiere was pointing to in prefs didn't seem to exist (unless it is an 'invisible folder')... Windows has always been kind of weird about that bit (I usually use Mac, where those things are quite easy to locate).  Ultimately, I exported the audio out of Premiere and brought it back in, and the waveforms appear at all zoom levels as one would expect.

Thanks for the help.
