Rename clip automatically by a metadata

Hello,

I would like to know if there is a way to rename a clip following a metadata? If I write the n° scene_n°shot of the rushe on the comments columns, could I automatically copy&past what's on the comment columns to the name collumns?

I can't just rename the clip name... Complicated workflow...
I have to wirte the n°scene_n°shot of the rushe somewhere, at the same time I need to keep the original name of the rushes, do my thing (recreate an editing that had been done on another software, thanks to the original name of the rushes and the differents TC), and then, rename the orginal rushe by the n° scene_n°shot.
Don't want to explain everything because it's a very long process, and my english can't handle that ahah. But I have to get the original name of the rushe and the n°scene_n°shot at the same time. If I can't rename those automatically I will do it manually (copy&past for each file).

I've read a trick with Adobe Bridges "Batch rename", but it seems that it rename file too, and I don't want that.

Or if you know a way to import an AAF without the media, and to relink what's in the AAF timeline with media already imported in Premiere Pro? Searched last week but didn't find anything.

Thank you !

Sadly, there isn't a tool in Premiere quite that sophisticated. The only way to SORT OF batch rename is Premiere is to select multiple clips in the Project Panel, then open the Metadata panel, and then type in a new clip name, but that will batch rename the clips to ALL the same thing... you'd still have to go in and manually tack on any additional text to each clip one by one. Sounds like a feature request!

I just made a bunch of clips from one hour long clip. You mean to tell me you cant add numbers to a clip list in a bin???? I found out that all of my clips if exported as new files all share the same name of the original clip.. there is no batch renaming feature in Preimiere.. I editing toolt hat deals with lots of clips and files??? I thought this was a tool comparible to AVID or something.. ADOBE PREMIERE has been around since 1993 and they still cant have automated features that are super basic?????? what kind of cheap crap is this????

Dont know how you made the clips but if they are subclips they all have unique names.

If you want to batch rename that is easily done in the Bridge.

Here is the dilema I'm facing - I use batch rename in Bridge, it works great but I already created a 15 min sequence out of hundreds of clips. Now I have decided to do some housecleaning. If I go into bridge and rename all the clips then it will break all the links with my project. Can I rename them from Premiere Pro so it doesn't break the link to the project?

You can rename clips within Premiere. The source clips on the hard drive do not get renamed.

Alas renaming is one clip at a time either in the project window or in the timeline.

Under the wrench in the timeline there is a setting to show source names and labels.
