Rolling trim shortcut has been removed -- why?

Community Beginner ,

Hello,

In previous versions of Premiere, if you entered rolling trim mode, you were able to use the alt/option + L or R keys to indefinitely extend or shorten the edge of that clip, even if it wasn't next to another clip on the timeline.

In the most recent version of Premiere (23.1.0), it appears that functionality has been removed. alt/option + L or R still works to trim edits between two adjacent clips, but if only a single edge of a clip is selected, e.g. not adjacent to another clip, using the alt/option + L or R keys exits trim mode after trimming a single frame.

This is driving me crazy. It appears this functionality, which I used all the time, has simply been removed. It IS possible to recreate a similar effect by toggling through trim modes before using alt/option + L/R, but it adds an extra step, and is dangerous - accidentally toggling to ripple trim and trimming messes up sync in my timeline.

Adobe, can you please restore this functionality? I can't see why there would have been any reason to remove it, it appears it hasn't been replaced by a different function or anything, just taken away.

Hello @julby2744,

Thanks for the message. It’s been a long time since you filed this bug. I apologize for the lack of a response from the product team. Are you still having this issue? If so, the team will need more info from you to reproduce the bug. Can you provide the information required here? How do I write a bug report?

I'll move your post to the Discussions board while we await your information.

Thanks,

Kevin

Dear julby,

This is working for me. Can you detail your system: Mac or Windows, OS, and Premiere Pro version? I also had some weirdness with 23.1 on Monterey that required that I reset Preferences. You can try that as a troubleshooting step, as well.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hey Kevin -- thanks. I'm on version 23.1.0, build 86. Mac OS Monterey v12.6, new M1 Pro Macbook Pro.

I already tried resetting preferences before posting. Did not fix the behavior. Also attempted to see if there was anything in the shortcut list I could modify to make the system behave normally. No luck.

Hey Kevin! Following up here - any ideas as to if this is a bug, or if this feature was removed?

I've been having this issue as well. Version 23.1, Monterey 12.6.2, on one of the 2013 trashcan mac pros. Selecting an edit with the roll trim function and trimming one frame immediately deselects the edit point after a frame of movement.
