Rotate and resize video shot with smartphone

Sorry to ask a question that has been asked before, but answers I found relate to older versions of Premiere Pro.

I have version CC and am very much a newby. However I need to do something urgently (compile a batch of greetings videos for a young lady who has just had a heart transplant) so hand holding in doing this would be greatly appreciated. I'll learn more later!

I took several short clips of get well messages from her friends at the local church. I used my smartphone and held it horizontally expecting resulting video to be in landscape format which I could edit and compile as required. No problem with doing that but unfortunately the video is displayed in the correct format (in that the whole of the video field I took is shown) but it is vertical. I was able to rotate it back to horizontal via Effects Control and Rotation, but the result was a correctly orientated video but the sides were lost. In other words the video was rotated but fitted into the original sized vertical frame. Hope that makes sense!

I just need to expand the width to expose the sides of the video I took. The video is there as using the Position control I can see the missing sides but that loses me the centre.

Thanks for your help.

Ian

Click anywhere in your timeline.

Go to the menu Sequence > Sequence Settings, and when the Sequence Settings pane opens, swap the values for horizontal and vertical,  so that the number that was in the vertical box is now in the horizontal box and vice versa. Click OK.
