Scaling

Hi.

I am currently editing a video of our village panto and i have noticed that i haven't quite got my tripod head perfectly level so the whole thing is ever so slightly unlevel. 

To remedy this i changed the rotation to -1 but as a result one corner of the footage is now just black space where the image has moved. So to counter that i changed the scale to 103%. I didn't think this would affect the quality in any way that would be noticeable but having reviewed the footage i can see an obvious difference. Is it this Scale percentage that's ruining the quality?

My footage is 1920x1080i 25fps pal.

How are you viewing this quality degradation.

I often do horizon leveling with 103 scale, cant say I see much difference.

Full screen at Full Res playback. I haven't rendered the timeline or that portion of it but i didn't think rendering it would make much difference but i'm happy to try it.

Ey Jim Simon, can you please upload some screenshots to see the result? Can it be because you are rotating an interlaced video, but I want to see a screenshot please.

No, it's been years since I've had to do this fix.  Having had the problem a few times, I now take more care with my horizons when filming.

Top image is scaled to 103% and bottom is 100%.  It's hard to see on here but they lady on the left with the striped outfit on looks sharper in the unscaled image (at the bottom) than in the scaled one both in PP and here on the screenshots. I'd have said the lady in blue looks sharper in the bottom one too.

It is not exactly the same frame.

Your audience does not know you scaled the footage....

It should be exactly the same frame as i copied the timecode from the first. However, i can see there's a small difference.  And yes you are right, they won't know but i like to produce the best footage i can and if that means not scaling it then that's what i'll do.

Ann is correct. It isn't.  Look at the lady that is the second from the right.  Her mouth is not the same in both photos.

I’ve just captured two more screenshots making sure the frames are the same. The  non scaled version is visibly far superior to the scaled one. Peoples faces are noticeably sharper. Therefore I am going to remove all scaling on the project and love wit it being slightly un level. I would prefer this than a loss of quality. Thanks for your answers.
