Screen Tearing Using Mercury Transmit on Dual Monitor Setup

Hey there,

I found a guy on this forums that described the issue I'm having perfectly.  The apparent fix for him was to purchase and install a dedicated I/O device like the Blackmagic Decklink Mini Monitor.  I have one of these in the mail on an impulse buy after reading that this was the fix at least for him.  However, I'm thinking I may have bit off more than I'm willing to chew...

I, like him, am experiencing screen tearing while using Mercury Transmit.  My playback window in the main editing screen always looks great, no problems.  The second monitor I'm using to display a full screen preview always tears.  Doesn't matter if I switch screens around or try GPU settings for vertical sync or what have you, always come up with this issue.

Just now, I realized that if I open a window (my GPU gui) over top of the second monitor that is tearing, while it's playing back video from the timeline, it goes smooth and issue goes away.  It's like it goes into a windowed mode where my task bar in Windows 10 will pop up and it's no longer full screen maybe?  I'm rather confused.  I'm wondering if there is a setting that I can select that puts that monitor in a windowed mode?

I'm starting to think that the Blackmagic Decklink solution isn't what I will want to go with to fix my issue.  I don't want to have to dedicate one of my 2 monitors to it to only be used in-program.  I use it all the time outside editing and don't want to have to make a settings change and connection swap every time I open the program to do editing.

Any thoughts on a remedy outside the Blackmagic device? Thanks ahead of time!

Ok then!!!!!

Overnight, my pc went through and re-booted windows with updates..... I now have zero issues and my video looks like it should with ZERO tearing going on in my full screen mercury transmit monitor.  Um.....ok.....I guess I'm happy about it but what the F?  Wish I knew what was going on but I suppose I'm happy as a clam that the problem appears to be no more!!!  Wow, what the heck.

Thanks,

Keith

I have had my set up working perfectly for so long ..I am not sure the reasons how or the settings I made to accomplish it.

But...FWIW

I have a 2  AV Monitor set up ( both 1920 x 1080).

One is the Premiere GUI Work Space and the other is full screen Program Monitoring .

This full screen plays back.... Bin, Source, Sequence or Program Monitors .  No tearing....

PLUS... I  have a Broadcast quality Panasonic Monitor  that I connect using SDI connection thru a Black Magic Card, This mimics my monitor 2 ( and is color matched). ie. It only plays back full screen video and no computer GUI

The SDI out put  is what  I believe is controlled by Mercury Transmit (Check)

So my 2 AV monitor set up is controlled by my Windows Graphic Card Set ups  (Drivers) and the BC Monitor is thru BM ( via  Mercury Transmit)

EDIT : I wil add FYI

Despite having 3 monitors that balance "look wise" against SMPTE Color Bars and Source Media... the BC Monitor has the function to display waveforms ( a WFM).  This allows me to totally observe and compare  a QC thru my own pipeline back against PPro ... from Camera to Export ...and cross facilities

Dont let anyone tell you that cant be done!

Thanks for the reply.

I'm still really stumped why my setup would be capable of sending a synced or smooth looking playback to my second full screen monitor when I have a window open over it but not when it's got the whole screen to itself.  Here is a link to an unlisted video I took with my phone of the monitor:

Mercury Transmit Full screen Playback with GPU - YouTube

I don't want to have to buy a 3rd monitor or broadcast  screen at this point but I may if that is the only fix.  I'd actually be willing to upgrade to multiple, or a better GPU if that's a fix for this?  I'm wondering if I just have a weird combination of GPU and monitors where this is occurring and giving me vertical sync issues in this one instance.  Still wouldn't explain why I am able to get smooth playback when I have a window opened over the monitor I'm using for full screen playback (mercury transmit) but without that window open it's problematic.  Every other kind of playback or viewing of games, videos, anything, looks perfect.

Thanks,

Keith

Lucky you :). I'm having the issue now, and don't think I can count on a Windows update to fix it.
