Sequence missing

Community Beginner ,
Jan 30, 2025 Jan 30, 2025

Hi, i worked 2 days on a video and today i opened the premiere file and my timeline is gone!

The window is there, but the content is gone. I have 6 auto save files in no one anything is saved, all i see is the window with the files. what happened? no on in the company ever saw something like this before.

I exportet the file yesterday with no problems, saved it and closed premiere. no errors.. nothing.

Is there any possibility to relocate the timeline or were 2 days of work just gone???

Hi @sascha_8364

Sorry to hear this. Did you manage to find an older auto save in which the sequence was still there? Premiere Pro does not delete files or your sequences. If you haven't already tried it I would reset the workspace to default and then search the project window for the Sequence. Good luck and I hope you find it there in that project panel.

Thank you

Ian

i have reseted the workspace already. there is no timeline. if i pull a file into the timeline, he create a new one. it's like i never opened one. and it's the same for all auto saves of the last two days. started a new project, and it works. but in this project all is gone.

Looking at your screenshot:
The TIMELINE panel is closed. Open it under the Window menu at the top. What you're seeing are the audio meters stretched to fill the entire bottom of the UI.

Your SEQUENCE looks like it's still in the Project panel at the left.

Timeline panel is not closed. And to make sure, i loaded the default settings in the wondow settings (i checked all google videos to this topic first, before i wrote this claim).

if i pull a file into the timeline he creates a new one, because it's like i never opened a timeline.
And it's also not in the project panel on the left (that's where i looked first). i scrolled down and there ist no sequenz logo or anything else, only audio and video files. The sequenz is gone, like a fresh project. And all Auto-Save files of the last two days are the same. i checked them all.

On the top it also says "keine sequenzen" (no sequences)...

I am lucky that i exported the almost finished video, to edit some elements in After Effects. Now i opened a new project and working on the finished mp4 for further edits. Thats stupid, but i got no time or mental strength to start from scratch 😄

Are you 100% certain you opened the same project that you edited? Have you searched your entire computer (or wherever your projects are stored) for additional copies of the Project file -- and not just the list when Premiere opens?

Again, Premiere does not delete sequences or media on it's own and I cannot think of an instance where this might happen -- but I have seen users inadvertently work in the wrong Project file and save their work there.

I've worked in ONE Project. I exported the almost finished video to pre check it. I pressed CTRL+S to save. i made another manual backup copy of the file. Everything was fine. I opened the file the next day. Timeline Gone. And all 6 or 7 Auto-Save files got the same problem. I dont care what Premiere does or not. It's gone and that's a fact. Iam working since 2010 with Premiere and something like this never happened before. But it happened now, that's all!

I will now pre-check every new file i create to be sure that doesnt happen again. just thought, that may be an issue earlier, by someone else, so he could help me...

You mentioned a server in an earlier reply; is that where the files are saved? Could something have happened on that side where it reverted to an earlier copy of the file? Servers often have snapshots you can refer back to.

And just to confirm: you've opened the main Project file already? Because your screenshot is definitely showing at auto-save.

It's somewhat a common scenario [for new users]. Type SEQ into the project search window, it should show any sequences in there.
