Slow Exports with Premiere 2019 and linked After Effects comps (Mac)

I have a similar problem – at least with projects with linked AE-compositions in, even though they are all made in the 2019 version. Extremely slow rendering and some crashes. Switched from OpenCL to Metal, but it made little to no difference.

My system is:

iMac 2017

4,2 GHz Intel Core i7

48 GB 2400 MHz DDR4

Radeon Pro 580 8192 MB

We have been investigating this issue internally at Adobe.

Some users have reported increased render speeds by not leaving AE open.   If you close Pr, a headless version of AE runs in the background and this does improve performance for many.

Otherwise, if your issue is different, happy to help investigate further.

Has there been any progress on this issue?

I'm experiencing the same thing, only with linked AE comps in my timeline.

Many suggest using linked comps only until the comp is finished,  then render a full DI file out of Ae to replace the comp in Pr. Playback and export are both better and more stable.

I did find it helpful to close AE before exporting, using media encoder. It seemed to go much faster and not get bogged down for some reason. Do you believe this issue will be resolved with more updates from Adobe? I used to be able to export projects with lightning speed. Would love to see that come back.

No idea what future render/export times will be. And they seem to vary between rigs.

Chris, do you happen to have any 2018 projects that are faster?  Any chance you can share a simple example with me?

If I can clearly reproduce an exact case where we are slower we may learn something interesting (maybe there's a specific reason / feature / function)  If it's a broader slowdown, having an actual project always helps and when I can reproduce an issue I can get engineering working on it.

Also, FYI - we have addressed some bugs in this area with our latest released patch and have resolved issues - some related to Mojave.  Your issue May be different.

Sounds like you are still experiencing an issue - happy to lend a hand.
