Speed ramping with premiere pro 2025

Community Beginner ,
Nov 07, 2024 Nov 07, 2024

I just updated my premiere pro to the 2025 version and I cant find where I do speed ramping. In the earlier versions there was a tiny fx button on the clip where you could acces time remapping, but now its not there and I cant find this path Show Clip Keyframes > Time Remapping > Speed when I right click either :((

Does anyone help with this issue?

In Adobe Premiere Pro 2025, the FX badge has been relocated to the right side of the clip in the timeline.

If you don't see the FX badge, ensure it's enabled by following these steps:

  1. In the Timeline panel, click on the Timeline Display Settings (wrench icon).
  2. From the dropdown menu, select Show FX Badges to enable them.

This adjustment will display the FX badges, allowing you to access effect controls directly from the timeline.

Hello Paul

I'm not seeing Timeline Display Settings under the wrench Icon.  I have Show FX Badge enabled but the fx badge is grayed out.  The only way to see it is to set an opacity keyframe and then it shows up.  Why???

When the FX badge is grey, it indicates that no effects have been applied to the clip. Once an effect is added (or an intrinsic effect—like opacity, scale, or position—is adjusted), the badge will turn bright white to signify that an effect is active.

For more details on FX badges and their functionality, you can refer to the official documentation here: FX Badges in Premiere Pro.

Hello Paul-  I'm trying to time remap.  You used to be able to control click the fx badge to change the timeline menu from opacity to time remapping.  Now you can't  The only way to access the Time Remapping menu in the timeline is to add an effect?!?  That's nuts!  Also time remapping doesn't work at all except by setting keyframes in the Effects Control window.  Much clunkier than before.  I think this is a bug.  I've thrown out preferences and restarted and it does not work.

When you right-click (or Control-click on macOS) the FX badge in your timeline, you should see the option to switch to Time Remapping. You don’t need to apply any effect to access this feature. If you’re not seeing this option, can you share a screenshot of your timeline?

It works fine for me in Premiere Pro 25.1.

Hi, Paul.

I am using the speed remapping tool and everything works fine with the line to showing up properly but I am having the issue that when I use the ctrl click to add the point on the line and try to adjust the speed, height of that line, the line doesn't move up or down which makes it so I can't create a speed ramp. Is there a new way on the 2025 version of doing this or have I made a mistake and not enabled something as in all the tutorials I see of using the time remapping to make a speed ramp, those ways have not worked for me.

The process for speed ramping using time remapping is the same as in previous versions. If the line isn’t responding when you try to adjust it, you may need to increase the track height in your timeline.

I am also having this problem with Premiere. I am confirming with intuive_body here that this problem is a 2025 software issue and doesn't work like older versions. Need a fix.
