SUBTITLE - Exporting STL Binary or Avid DS file

Explorer ,
Oct 10, 2022 Oct 10, 2022

Hey everyone,

I'm using premire 22.6.2 and I'm trying to get to the old export menu for the subtilte. I need to export to STL or Avid DS. You used to have the option of selecting EBU STL in the old export window, but it's gone in the new version.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help

From your screenshot, the captions track you created is type "Subtitle." The only export option is SRT.

To export STL, you must have an EBU caption track.

You can change the subtitle type (right click track header, track settings), but it might not support the properties/style you want.

I would try converting the SRT to STL using an on line converter. See if that is accepted. Let us know.

The actual EBU subtitle type is very limited on styles, since it is a more classic closed caption type. STL sidecar export is still available for that subtitle type when you export and select Sidecar in the Caption options. If that is what you are looking for check the caption sidecar types in the export options. Let us know.

If you are looking to export Subtitles as STL (the old Open Captions), I can address further.

Hi Stan,

thanks for the quick reply. When I chose side car the SLT option is not availble anymore. It used to be down there at file format, but there are no options or check marks to set. Same thing if I use the old export window in Media Encoder.

Could you point me to the right box?

In general the production company asked me specifically for STL or Avid DS because the subtitles need to be transferred to Media Composer.

Hi @Michael Muench .  I am in the exact same position with a broadcaster here in Ireland asking for EBU .stl file.  Did you ever get a resolution to this or a workaround?  Would lobe to know?

Thanks

Alan

Well it tutns out I just found the solution from within premiere 24.  I was initially lookingfor the .stl options from the text window / export area and then also on video file export options as you were, but found that it is acuall via File(main menu) / Export / Captions and then you have multiple selections of the CC export  - including .stl  🙂 as per screenshots below.  You get the full host of metadata and checkboxes options to fill in also(which would not be available if using an online .srt to .stl converter).  Hope that helps someone going forward.
