Target bitrate for maximum quality

Hi,

I'm rendering some old films into h.264 and I want the highest quality video possible.

The videos im interest in rendering have around  a 1.6 MB per second bitrate.

When exporting I was wondering if I should simply select the same bitrate for my target? Then put maxium at like 10.

Thanks

1.6K

1.6 MB/sec is 1.6 Mega Bytes/sec which equals 12.8Mb or 12.8 Mega Bits/sec.

MB (large B) stands for Mega Bytes, Mb (small b) stands for Mega Bits, there are 8 bits to a byte.

In Premiere Pro, when you set the bit rate for exporting, you are setting Mega Bits/sec:

Thanks for clarifying.

In your opinion would be the ideal target setting in Mega Bits per second?

I read that often this number needs to be higher than the source. Is this correct?

My two cents:

For source material that is 1.6MB/s, exported for the purpose of viewing,  I would likely go a target bit rate of 14Mb/s.

I read that often this number needs to be higher than the source. Is this correct?

If it is any less than you will be loosing some information, or introducing some artifacts in the process.
