Text Missing in Effective Control Panel

I am following a tutorial. Text in the tutorial of the Effective Control Panel is missing in my file.

Do you have text that you have typed into the text block?

I typed the text and selected it from the timeline. Above attached "Text missing" screen shot shows this.

It would be better to see a screen grab showing both the program monitor and ECP at the same time.
