Text Resolution Problem - PART 2

Hello everybody,

surely you know the problem about the fact that the text tool of  Premier Pro gives a pixelated effect when the composition is played.

Many answers have been suggested: 

- scaling of the text area and not the text itself,

- using of another program to create the text (like photoshop)

- adoption of a full visualisation of the preview window

- ecc...

However these answers don't fully solve the problem.

Please, let me ask another question:

could be this issue related with the resolution of the video filled in the timeline ?

that is: is there maybe a video resolution for which the text perfectly much itself to the video filled in ?

If I use the text tool I dont see any pixelation.

Post sequence settings and mediainfo on footage used.

Sequence Settings:

The footage consists of two black .bmp images, the first has pixel dimension 720x576, the second one 1920x1080.

Both the images have simply been created with Windows Paint.

Once imported in the timeline, Premiere Pro detects the first as image carachterized by square pixels (1,0940), the second one as image carachterized by square pixels (1,0).

The Text:

I've simply used the Essential Graphics panel.

I don't get any pixelation of text. And we get a few posts on here but not many really, considering how many people use Premiere daily.

This would have to do with several settings such as what you set playback and paused resolution for, the resolution (frame-size) of your sequence ... monitor scaling ...

However,  can you please better explain the way you obtain text perfectly sharped ?

Or can you post as example a footage with the correct choosen settings  to better understand how to use the Essential Graphics panel ?

I've never had pixelated text created in the EGP.

I just use the standard tools ... sometimes I just use the T hotkey to switch to text entry and click or click-drag in the program monitor depending on whether I want a line of text or a text box. Sometimes I do use the new item/text option in the EGP panel. Either way ... then I type in my text. Select it and either use a master text setting I've saved or set the text size, font and such from the EGP controls.

Which is why Ann and I are curious as to your settings and steps.

Here's a shot of using Impact ... the font you have there, at size 400 ... on my laptop screen, with the image sized at 100% which is of course pixel to pixel.

Hi Neil,

please, let me notice that in the picture you attached the video is not in playback (because the playback key is triangular and not square). Surely the text appears sharped in this case.
But this is not the case I refer to.

The pixelation arise when the video is in playback. 

Please, try to play the footage you kindly arranged as example and surely you can see the pixelation effect (very accentuated at 400%).

No wonder it looks less crisp: you are using a 720x576 sequence and probably watching it on a HD screen.

My text during playback looks as I would expect depending on the playback settings in use at the time, as sometimes I drop to 1/2 or 1/4 res and take it off High Quality playback.

If at full res on HQ playback, it looks as it should.

When viewed on a monitor such that the image itself is not expanded. As Ann notes, it looks like you are using a 720x576 sequence frame-size played back on a much larger screen. That right there would account for the pixelation.
