The best way to run Premiere Pro when considering harddrives?

Explorer ,
Mar 31, 2023 Mar 31, 2023

I understand the headline might be a bit strange, so let me explain. I'm currently getting a new computer, it has 2TB internal SSD and 4TB internal HDD. What is the optimal way for me to run Premiere Pro in termsof performance? I assume the program should be on the SSD, but what about the videos themselves? Is it okay to store them on the HDD (which would be nice considering there's a lot of space there), or is it a performance stumble? And where should I locate the media cache?

Thank you!

Put all on the SSD and use the HDD for backups and/or exports.

An external is unlikely to be faster than in internal. Internals can be right on the main bus, externals are gonna go through a protocol like USB, bottlenecking you.

Thank you for the answer! I also have external SSD like the Samsung T7. Would this be a good alternative to the internal SSD? And at least better than the internal HDD?

Thanks, Jeff! Decided to get an extra internal 4TB Nvme SSD to ensure I have enough fast space then, thank you so much!
