Editing a video and want to add a circle preset for a vignette. However, the circle preset doesn't seem to exist. All of the tutorials say that the circle is in the generate tab but I don't see it. I've done this effect before but for some reason it doesn't appear anymore. Any ideas/help?
Hello @Jorge302710524gel,
Thanks for the message. Unfortunately, that was an obsolete effect. All obsolete effects were removed in 24.6. Sorry for the frustration. Try using the Ellipse tool to create a circle shape. Would that work for you?
Thanks,
Kevin

How do I add a stroke to the video?

Create a shape in the Essential Graphics panel, in the Edit tab, and down below you have many options including stroke, fill, mask with shape, color ...

The problem is that this is for a facecam. My original method was to use the circle tool and the paint bucket tool to add a stroke. It was pretty simple. By removing these tools they made a semi-simple possess more time-consuming and difficult. I found a video showing another way to do it and sure it "works" but takes way more steps to do and now it is a longer process.

I can make a circle with a stroke pretty quickly in the EGP. You can save a graphics "clip" for reuse also.
It's a different process, and yea, it's annoying to have to learn a replacement process for something you didn't even have to think about doing.

Good to hear someone understands the frustrations. I wasn't expecting them to remove all the obsolete tools with no warning. I would have started looking at other ways to do it.

They've been "Obsolete" since at least 2018. Seems long enough.
And they did post that they were removing the folder entirely in their page on the 24.x series release. So they even gave notice there.
Problem is, many users never go read through the full "release page". I've long suggested they use pop up within a release, like the "new stuff" thing they now have at times when you first launch a version.
For some reason, they don't always listen to my wise advice. I simply don't understand.

I understand your point but I respectfully disagree. Not all of the "obsolete' tools are obsolete. One of the tools that was taken away was the paint bucket tool, which allowed an easy way to add a stroke to a face cam. If editors still can find use out of those tools then it's not obsolete. Some tools going away made sense such as the circle tool since you can use a circle mask to get the same effect but in my opinion, I feel that they could have informed people in a better way such as social media for in other forms. Shardy actions like this got them in trouble with the US government. Not as serious, but a good example that came up on the top of my head.

I think you missed my point ... it's not the function that was obsolete. It was the code of the effect.
And these were effects that by the numbers were used be relatively small percentages of the user base. Ergo, in priority matters, they weren't high enough to rate the engineer time to build an entirely new effect.
I don't see how you can even say "shady" ... they put them in the Obsolete folder, and have for years said those are eventually going away.
They were never available on the new Mac 'silicon' rigs for the same reason ... so they've already been gone for some users over a year now.
And they did announce earlier in this cycle that those were going away.
I miss some of them too ... but ... I understand the reasoning, and there was a long period of being on-notice the effects were to be discontinued.

I know this has already been answered, but I wanted to share a workaround that works for me. I use the Circle tool daily, and while I’m aware there are other methods, I find it the most convenient for my workflow.
If you have a file where you’ve previously used the Circle tool (or any other obsolete tools), you can copy and paste the attributes. This will transfer the obsolete effect to your new file.
I understand this might feel tedious, especially if you only use it occasionally, but I hope this tip helps someone out! 😅

why was this effect removed?

Sigh.
For the umpteenth time, as they have posted over and over about this ... all effects in the Obsolete bin were used by less than 1% of the user base; none were capable of GPU use, so using them could pull other effects down to CPU processing from the GPU; and they had ancient code the couldn't be updated, needed a complete from scratch re-creation.
They've been in the Obsolete bin since around 2017. Plenty of time to migrate to things not in the Obsolete bin. As I had to do for a couple effects I had used a lot.

Its lame they removed it. I used it all the time. Now I have to relearn how to make the spotlight follow effect without it. I just followed tutorials I had saved for it. Im not a pro. I dont often use pro as well. But when I do. Thats what I use. It literaly could have stayed that and not bothered anyone.
