Time Code Drop Frame

Community Beginner ,
Jun 24, 2022 Jun 24, 2022

I have a problem with EVERY .mp4 (audio or video) imported into my projects. The default Time Display Format must be changed from "Use Default Time Display" to 59.94 fps Drop Frame Timecode to get accurate timecode. This doesn’t sound like a feature....it sounds like a bug. This issue has been in every version of Premiere since 15.x.

How do you know the timecode is inaccurate (ie what are you comparing it to)?

Source recording. Everything I use to check the recorded time code shows the same timecode. Except Premiere. When the source clip os dropped the time code changes. in order to display the timecode that every other device is showing, I have to change the default time code in Premier to 59.94 Drop Frame. The issue os really with Premiere’s inability to actually use the default time code on the clip.

Hi,
Sequence is 59.94. But the issue is with the source player. If I drop a clip to edit timecode is always off. I have to manual change the timecode from use default time code to 59.94 Drop frame in order to get the the correct time code on the clip. The clips are recorded at 59.94 drip frame. The issue is “use default time code” doesn’t actually read default time code.

Where are these MP4s coming from? Is that camera acquistion or something else? And any chance you could provide a sample?

There have been instances with some codecs (like BRAW) where Premiere did not correctly read the timeocde track.
